Sap Sucks...

My ex-girlfriend parked her car (ugly a$$ Jetta) under a tree that apparently dripped sap on her hood. She let it sit on there for a few weeks and now shes trying to get it off. I tried using Goo Gone, and Bug and Tar remover, and it is helping slightly...but does anyone have any ideas? If nothing works, oh well its not my car...but if it does....well lets just say brownie points!

can you try wetsanding very lightly (like 2000 grit) and then if you know someone or know how, have them buff over the spot.... thats what i had to do to get the pollen off my entire car....

wash the car and then try claybar... but if she's your "ex-girlfriend" i don't see why you'd go through all the trouble

The sap has dried an hardened..
I had this before.. although didn't let it sit that long.

I brought it to one of those self serv car washes and it turns out the Wax setting was HOT water.. it started to melt off after a few minutes..
Maybe a total of 10 minutes..

I soaked some goo gone on a paper towl and let it fester in for a few hours. I was then able to scape it off in one big chunk.

I don't know from claybar, But you might try peanut butter...not chunky and the brand doesn't matter. use it like a buffing compound,,y'know just on a damp cloth (not bread). It works in the house according to heloise,,so why not on a Jetta.

they sell sap remover.....where i dont know my dad owns a detail shop and he gets it from a guy who come in a truck which has supplies on.....if its really bad this is a good ideal since its been sitting a while....only issue with the one we have its so strong it leaves a bit of a fade look as if it went through the clear...depends how much u use sometime it doest leave a mark.....the mark it leaves is better than the Sap

since you should have clear coat on there, get comse scratche remover, use a exacto blade n start to chip it off, making sure that you're going sideways. make sure that its hardened. n then you shuold be able to "crack it" justl ike freezing gum n then peeling it off sorta deal

Try bug and tar remover, claybar and then polish. Its probably etched into the paint by now so stuff like goo gone isnt going to work. And wax is not going to do anything to it, even if it is cleaner wax. Wax doesnt do anything to remove stuff from your paint.

why isn't this in the detailing section? Try hot water, with whatever suggestions mentioned above.

We use brake cleaner at the shop. Takes it right off and does not hurt the paint. Just polish and wax the area when your done.

Your joking right???

Hot Hot water soak will help first. Then try the goo gone again.

Use brake fluid. no dont. Dont use brake cleaner either. Or sandpaper.

I'll give you the best stuff to use. Rubbing Alcohol. Make sure its not 50% isopropyl alcohol but 100% isopropyl alcohol.

You can park in a nice hot spot. Get the stuff soft. Then move it into the shade and let a rag with alcohol sit on it for a few seconds. You'll be able to start to rub it off. With a few spritzes of alcohol on a rag it will come off cleanly.

No I'm not joking, you'd be very suprised at what 3M brake cleaner takes off your cars paint, without harming the finish at all. Try it yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Wait a few months. I bet those spots you sprayed begin to fade as the clear coat beneath starts to discolor and flake.

I have uses a general purpose cleaner called purple power at full power, similar to simple green, to clean sap and tar off small areas and haven't had any problems with the clear coat or fading.

A couple of my friends had the same problem. One used a claybar and the other buffed it out. They both worked....
