What is the Difference ???

Hi guys sorry for this question but the search is out of service ...I just bought a 1996 5 speed tranny locking I gues my is non locking what do they mean by this ans also what is a VLSD ...2nd I also bought a 2001 clutch kit to by put in to my 1995 Max are there any other tricks that you guys know before I put this tranny in like do I need to worry about the axles not fittinf the 1996 tranny or are there anything that I have to keep in mind ..also if the locking tranny is a posi tracksion can I use sintec oil ???

Yea damn man I had to read that like 10 times but still don't know what your saying.

I get this part though from your question... lol... What is VLSD...

Viscous Limited Slip Differential.... each output shaft of the differential is tied together by a device known as a viscous coupling. This is basically two slotted discs that have a silicon fluid between them. If the discs are rotated at a speed that varies relative to each other this produces friction which heats the silicon fluid up. The silicon becomes more viscous as it's temprature rises. There will be a point where the silicon will become viscous enough to hold the two discs together (this is why the discs are slotted, it is so the silicon will have something to grip to).

I hope English isn't your first language.

VLSD = Viscous Limited Slip Differential, often referred to as locking, or "posi" traction.

You bought a locking tranny, or car that's equipped with a locking diff? And yours is no-locking or locking?
Why would sinthetic not be able to peform in a locking vs non-locking?

There are numerous threads, maybe 1-4 pages back that give some details about the 5th gen clutch and their compatibility with the 4th gen transmission. Donate, it's definately worth the $20.

That's about all you're going to get unless you take an English class or slow down

Not meaning to Tread jack here but i have a couple of questions regarding the LSD and Locking diff...

I own a 1996 maxima SE the transmission code is RE4F04V so locking right?
My sisters owns 1996 maxima GLE the transmission code is RE4F04A LSD right?

so my question is, was the locking diff only put in the SE model?
What would provide better traction during winter months (snow and ice here in canada) ?

IIRC Vlsd is the ONLY locking, posi, limited slip, whatevayawannacallit that came stock. V indicates VLSD, A indicates open diff.

Your typical limited slip diff uses clutches or cones that are open to the gear oil, and the wrong lube will render it useless.
