well then they must be retarted for clearly stating so in their instructions
I don't see how spraying into TB while working butterfly back and forth is so difficult that you have to take it into the dealership, thats all it realy is...

As we know following the instructions isnt always benifical when doing a repair.

The dealership comment wasnt to be taken seriously.Anyone who knows how to use a screw driver and can wipe a surface with a cloth should be able to do this no problem.

my friends uncle told me last night that if i have never cleaned my TB, then i should (since my max has 139k on it already) he told me to buy TB cleaner and spray it in while the engine was running, and watever crap was in the engine would be put out through the exhaust.

supposedly cleaning the tb with tb cleaner should help increase performance.

has ANYONE DONE IT WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING?

i did it to mY EX g/f kia sephia. nothing happened to her car tho. u just hav to continue openin thw throttle so that the car doesnt stall out.
i did it to her car so if anything wouldve happened it woulda happened to da kia.....not my max and besides shes my ex so i dont care fo her car.
but i cleaned mine with the car off. i dont see a risk at all. but i dont wanna hav WOT while cleanin it out. besides i wud hate to have all da nasty gunk go into my engine....god forbid the toothbrush get sucked into the TB or the rag for that matter.

sorry to seem upset but people should not cut corner if they are trying to maintain their cars.i love my max. its my 4th 4th gen.just take some time and do it right. i believe, if you do it right the first time, then you wont have to do it again. It took me less than 5 min to take the intake and the 4 12mm bolts that hold the tb in. comeon don't get scared and get in there. if you are then let someone else do it and be done with it.

Prior to cleaning my TB I did some research and concluded that it's fine to do so but if you don't feel safe for whatver reason then its your choice. Just make sure you reset your ECU afterwars as your CEL will probably be on, although it will be a "no failure" code. You might see smoke out of your exhaust but thats normal. My car hasn't had any problems whatsoever, same with my friend's cars who have done the same thing.

This is exactly what happends. I cleaned my TB while the engine was on with no problems and it made a significant difference in the performance, only thing was that my CHECK ENGINE light turned on because of course the engine computer thinks something is wrong while you're cleaning the TB with everything taken apart. You just have to reset it, scope out the sticky's
