How to replace hood struts on 97 SE???
Does anyone know if there is a "how to" on replacing the hood struts on my 97 Maxima SE? I purchased the struts at Auto Zone but cannot get the old ones off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, it's not hard replacing the hood struts. I got some hood struts at Auto Zone too and installed them easily.
First, you will need to take off the old, worn out struts. It would help if you had a friend help you hold the hood up.
To take them off get the correct size open end wrench and unscrew the bolts going in the car body from the strut. There is no nut on the other side of the car body. The strut bolts screw into a threaded hole.
Then when you have one strut unbolted, take the new bolts and put them into the Auto Zone strut. You will have to pull back the rubber band with a screw driver.
Start by screwing one bolt into the car body (with the strut attached). Then screw the other one in (with the strut attached).
It is very easy to do and the directons you got with the struts should ge good enough.
That was one of the best mods I did to my car.

Those pictures were from my 96 Max. I believe the 97 would be the same.
