Only one brand NGK...

You can do either OEM Platinums $12 a piece which will last 60k miles
OR
NGK Coppers.. specifically part #6953.. or you can ask for 6 plugs for a 97 Altima (its the same plug) which are considerably cheaper, about $1.50 each and they last for a good 25-30k miles

Those should be your ONLY options when it comes to plugs on our cars.

oem plats are $12 just for 1 PLUG??!!!
that's crazy..

the regular NGK type BKR5E-11 Copper Spark Plugs should suffice right?

Yes. They last half as long, but as long as you do them yourself that's not a problem.

I first used Bosch Platinum Plus 4's, as I had used them in the past ( single days) in my 300ZX Twin Turbo and they worked awesome, but in the Max they sucked, within 6 months they were shot, rough idling etc, because I spent so much on them I decided to go the other end of the price spectrum and put in the NGK coppers... the car runs at a smooth idle and runs perfectly, take the good advice and stick with NGK's, we've all gone through this before. If you change plugs yourself use the coppers and change on a regular basis you can't beat that. If you need someone to change them for you go with the NGK Plats, good luck.

NGK coppers sound good to me. Last night I was looking for the plugs on the car, I guess there not to be seen, got to remove some stuff, no big deal I hope.

well i know for a fact that autolites are NOT the way to go.. I bought a car and had starting probs from the get go, with Autolites in it .. just put in the plat NGK to a bill of about $80 and whined the whole way home.. when i got em in i could start the car so IMO it was a good investment! I don't know anything about the coppers, but maybe i will try em next time. i think I could deal with a plug change at 30K for $70 difference. Right now it hurts, but I guess if thats it then i can deal.

As an FYI,

I just bought some NGK Platnium plugs for about $3.50 Canadian each.

I bought them from www.partsource.ca. The Nissan dealers here wanted $17 Cdn. each for the same plug.

Does the recommendation cover all of the NGK copper plugs? I had the NGK V-Power plugs in my 3rd Gen and loved them. I'd suggest them if anybody is looking to replace their plugs soon.

Thanks!

NGK V-powers, I swear by them. If you want to go super duper expensive, get Iridium tip ones from Denso.

.039-.044" or 11mm (that's where the 11 in the part numbers comes from). Technically they come pregapped, but you should check anyway.

For a couple of bucks you can buy a gap gauge, so It's worth while to check the gap regardless @ .044"

has anybody tried the NGK Iridium IX plugs in their max. i'm guessing it'd be around the same sparking-wise as the denso iridiums, just wondering if anybody has tried them.

I will need some soon; I check with a few mechanics and told me to stay away from Bosch platinum which I have now as per they do not work properly in Japanese cars; they are mostly made for German cars; so will get the NGK copper and change them more often and save lots of money.

Just finished with mine. Used the NGK Copper's, that one in the back/middle of the engine bay is a pain.

Two of my plugs had a white substance all over them, one some slight rust...anyone got any info on what that could be???

wouldnt that be on the ceramic portion of the plug? is that what you mean? because i thought he was saying on the electrode side of the plug, which i think is just normal wear for a plug.

I tried them back when I had money to burn. They run fine, but no better than the NGK coppers - IMO of course.
