Ball Joint Destroyed

Ball Joint Destroyed
I changed my axle today and noticed my right side ball joint is DESTROYED.
The boot is almost worn away. And the insides are wide open. I guess it wasnt a good idea going 80mph through Georgia when it was raining on I95 through all the mini-floods...
My question is has anyone changed just the ball joint on their 4th gen?
The service manual says you cant change just the ball joint. Only the control arm.
Nobody in Savannah GA has a control arm. Thats where I am for med school.
Places do sell just the ball joint. But the manual says they cant be changed. But stores sell them.....
I'm confused
Has anyone done this?

Ya I went through this...
Okay you can just do the balljoint, but it needs to be pressed out with a machine and I think it needs to be put back in with a press. The details are a little sketchy on that as I didnt take that route, I had to get the whole new control arm. I guess the years prior to 95 you could just do the ball joint, but after 95 they say its got to be the control arm, but Ive heard of people getting away with how I explained it above. You are going to have to find a place that sells the whole control arm, just make sure if they are ordering it, that they order the right side. Good luck !
