High idle at red lights

My max has a wierd idle. When you start the car it idles normally (ie a little higher when it's cold but drops down once it reaches operating temp). Over the last few weeks it has developed this issue where after I drive at speed, sometimes over a long distance and sometimes between lights, and come back to a stop, the idle is high (1500rpm or so). If I blip the throttle it goes down to where it is supposed to idle (750rpm?). Gas pedal doesn't stick or anything. Any input is appreciated.

PCV valve?

I had some idle troubles after I changed a PCV valve @ the 60k service. They would drop to 300-500rpm while shifting (I have a 5-speed.) So I replaced it again and my idle problems went away. Actually, it idles a little high when it's cold but then settles down later.

Just a thought. It's a $4 part and changing it takes 5 minutes.

Good luck,
TOM

Could be a sticky IACV.

Clean your throttle body and the IACV valve.

on the sticky IACV... mine did exactly the same thing (high-idle in stop/go traffic, etc.). I took off the IACV and gave it a good scrub with some throttle-body cleaner (not carb-cleaner)... I also cleaned out the TB at the same time... its been fine since.
