What is factory-quoted mileage for the Maxima?

Anybody know this? If not.... what mileage are you getting? I have always wondered if I drive too much or if my car is spending too much gas.

Thanx....

I think he wants to know the gas mileage that Nissan claims. I get about 21mpg all city, usually never drive highway but my guess would be like 25mpg highway

Yes, I meant what is the mileage.

To rephrase:

What is the factory-quoted gas mileage? (I see that it is 21-22 city, thanx).

Also, what mileage are you guys getting?

Thanx again...

Yeah I drove my car pretty hard with my current tank of gas. I'll probably end up with 250 miles to the tank. I usually get 300-325 miles to the tank. It comes out to be about 22mpg city. Highway, not on the highway long enough to care.

For 1998 the EPA ratings were 22/27 for the 5 speed and 21/28 for the auto. The 5 speed gets better city because the auto has torque convertor losses and the auto gets better highway because top gear is taller than 5th in the manual and the auto has a lockup torque convertor. I have gotten a tankful low of 19.2 mpg and a tankful high of 38.3. BTW I'm auto.

38.3 is awesome. My best is 34.2mpg, that was 4 hours on the highway in very little traffic, cruise set to 74mph, with a few stints to 90mph for passing. Daily driving averages about 25.5mpg.

I've always wondered why 5th on a 5 speed was shorter than 4th in an auto. Ideas?

In my Canadian 1997 brochure for the GXE, the SE and GLE models it states the Transport Canada estimated fuel consumption to be:

Manual City/Hwy 10.9/8.2 L/100KM or 26/35 Mpg
Automatic City/Hwy 11.4/7.8 L/100KM or 25/36 Mpg

For a car with the kind of power that the Maxima has, the gas mileage is not really all that bad. I would rather be getting 23/24 mixed with a lot of heave spirited driving, than having a 4 banger and getting 31/32 with no power when you need it.
Maybe that is just me?

Cool J....you might want to check on the knock sensor/O2 sensors or something....you are getting horrible gas mileage.

I went on a 320mile trip Tuesday and got right at 27mpg. That is awesome.
It was a little in-town stuff, but mostly at like 80mph.

i get about 19 miles per gallon. thats city and highway combined. if u want to call it that. In New York City, driving on the highway is the same exact thing as driving in the city....i envy all of u guys who live down south where the only roads are highways..

Yep, that's my 95 pretty much exactly 24-25mpg with 50/50 driving

The 2K used to get 280 miles per tank (15 to 16 gallons), then all the sudden it's now getting 340 . so approx 22mpg

Yeah, except for the fact that everything is like 25-30 miles apart.
That is why I have 103k miles on a 99.5.

So you averaged 708.55 miles to the tank? In that case I'll be filling up twice before you get done with one tank full of gas.

I'd rather have highway miles any day over city miles.

Im getting about 23 mpg, 90% city. When I got my max I was only getting 13 mpg then the wonderful SES light came on and saved my life - O2 sensor.

i dont know why but i get the same miles driving in city or highway, i go on the highway everyday now for college and i get the same mileage when i used to drive around in my town, so i get 300 miles a tank till the light turns out, and one time i didnt feel like getting gas cause i though i would make it home but i barely did, the car stopped on the highway, and it still drove after i started it but i couldnt go past like 2000 rpms, and then it stopped again, but i made it to a gas station..... that was a scary event for me which i'll never do again, i got 320 miles on that tank

try the same thing, except 30 degrees out, 4 am, all nighter for an exam that was to make or break me...i dont trust the gas gauge anymore, guess i twas too cold for the last remaining fuel to vaporize or run on fumes...tha twas scary i had to wake my dad up at 4 am and then wake up for the exam at 8 am =(....oh yeah i do 27 mpg witha really dirty fuel filter...70/30 and i drive pretty hard at times.

those estimates mpg on the factory sticker are garbage, theyre for a specific driving style like 45 mpg on highway flooring it and stuff, thers a specific way they gauge it, read up on it if you want, i read bout it a fewmonths back, but im not remembering what it said

Yup, filled it up, drove 353 miles with the cruise set at 68 at night with no traffic, got home and filled it and clicked off at 9.2 gallons. No BS.

as it says on my car's original sales panels (you can see it on my car domain web site)
average should be 22 city 27 highway

22 as a average of 18 to 26 miles per gallon on the city
27 as a average of 22 to 32 miles per gallon on the highway
officialy on a 95 maxima manual
