RPM dance when engine is cold
My car starts reving out of control after I come to my first stop (at a stop light/sign etc.) in the morning. It goes inbetween 500 - 1700 rpm. This problem started occuring right after the mechanics installed my new clutch. This only happens when the car is in neutral. Once the engine is at normal operating temperature the car runs acts fine.
Is there a sensor that mechanics forgot to put on? Or did they get my throttle body dirty?

The engine is trying to heat up to normal operating temperature... when you put a load on it and put it in gear its going to go down and as soon as you get into neutral its going to jump back up... why dont you just give it 5 minutes to warm up every morning? It'll save alot more than just being a pain in the butt every time you stop.

does the rpms acutally dance? my car starts up at 1200 rpms and slowlys drops down to 650 rpms when the temp approaches to normal. this is normal. but if your car goes from 1700rpms to 500rpms and then back to 1700rpms. then it might be related to engine misfires.

When I first start it up it is fine it idles around 800 rpm and stays there and eventually drops to about 650 which I believe is perfectly normal. This thing started occuring where rpm starts jumping up eratically I never seen anything like it. It's like the ecu is confused or its trying to prevent the car from shutting off. I guess it might need new spark plugs?? The previous owner obviously didnt take care of car seeing that the tranny oil pitch black and the original air filter was still in there after 120k
