Trouble w/ MEVI wiring...

Just like the thread said. I'm having trouble wiring this bich up. This wiring job was suppose to be easy but the solenoid is not activating. I'm mainly having trouble with the rpm switch. So this is how I wired the vi in a nut shell, black, ground(cig);red, power(cig);yellow(solenoid); white,(gauge cluster). It seems like everything is wired up correctly but nothing is happening. The summit racing switch has the red and green LED on all the time. While all wires are connected I disconnect the yellow, the green light goes off. But if I disconnect the white both lights are still on. Has anybody every had this problem before? I've asked a couple of members for help but I thought if I asked in the forum so I could get a couple of more answers as well.

Summit wiring.
Red : switched and fused +12 supply. Cig +12v ok
Black: chassis ground. Nice solid bolt in the dash. Sandpaper to clean bare metal
Grey: Not used
Yellow: negative trigger to NEG terminal of the vacuum solenoid
White: RPM input signal from ECU or TAM screw on gauge cluster

Be sure your Yellow is going to the NEG terminal of the vacuum solenoid. By the sounds of it this might be your problem.
I used the same +12v source I used for the Summit switch for the POS terminal of the solenoid as well.

Also check your Summit dip switches. Set to 3400 rpm it should trigger the solenoid at about 5200rpm.

Good luck!

I was told that it didn't matter what wire off the solenoid was used for the yellow.

Plus, would it matter if I used the cig ground for the summit switch?

I don't know what solenoid you have, but its likely that it does have a POS and NEG terminal. Look closely at the connector and see if there's a little "+" beside one of the terminals. The GM one I used did.

Cig ground is probably ok. I just feel that a solid chassis ground eliminates that as a possible cause for trouble.

Give it a try

Cheers!

ok the solenoid itself doesn't have a positive and negative side but i did end up switching them. One to ground and the other to yellow. Still the summit's green led lights up whenever the yellow wire from the summit switch and the solenoid wire meet. Do you think that I could have a bad solenoid?

try this
the solenoid has two wires
try 1 on yellow and 1 on pos 12v
use a fuse to test it
