adding a keyless entry brain to my gxe

this is basically a plug in and go type of thing? everything i've read says the car is already wired even if it didn't come with it in the first place... so i can just plug in this brain i have in the trunk and get a new key fob, program them per the example in the faq and im set?

what about the window roll down, i hope that works too

i've asked this before, and i've gotten a million and one answers. Your best bet is to either ask a nissan tech (if you can find one that knows what they're talking about) or someone with experience doing installs on nissans.

Waste of time and money. Why not just get an aftermarket alarm installed. It won't suck *** as much as the stock alarm. Some even come with these LCD doo-dads that have pretty colors and beep when someone is touching your car.

Speaking of keyless entry I would love to put one in my 96 Max, not real concerned about alarm on it just so I don't have to use my key everytime to unlock the doors. From the sounds of it they seem pretty easy to install also, let me know if I'm wrong about this. I've looked around but haven't found anything in particular related to these systems. Anyone have a good place to pick one up at a reasonable cost?

Keyless entry was part of the C & C package. If you have the other options like Vanity lights, power driver's seat, etc, you have the keyless entry as well. AIf so, all you need is a remote and you are in business.

So for those of us GXE's that dont come with that ( power seats etc ..) do we just need the brain? Also, has any looked at my picture posted about the wire harnesses?

Well, that's great. Because I just found a brain out of a wrecked SE and trying to install it myself in my '95 maxima. Can't get it to work yet but figured out the brain itself is working properly. Anyway small 3-wire plug =?? (will reply on this shortly) but large 6-wire plug goes into the brain. This connects it to the power and to the ECM. For the rest I know there is a 1-wire connector place left on the brain that has to connect to the window antenna. It's interesting to know I haven't found this wire yet and I get the feeling this is only standard equiped with the SE. For test procedures you can rever to the Nissan A32 shop manual (the holy bible for this car).

Yep, you need to pull off that plastic side panelling to get to it. Just pop off those plastic clips holding it in place and it'll pull right off. You should see a black blastic box, this is the aerial. If you have keyless, their will be another metal box near it. There is another thread somewhere on this forum that shows a picture of what it looks like, I'll see if I can find it and edit this post.

Edit: Couldn't find the pic, but this thread could be of someuse, http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=308420

brain and package

the security and comfort package thing is really getting on my damn nerves.
i bought the damn module today, and installed it alongside the ground wire.
guess what?------------ bull**** that thing didn't work.
i have a 95 gxe, and i doubt very much if it came with the s&c package.
although it was prewired(so to speak) i couldn't get any current out of it. me and athlon omega were working on that thing for hours, and still no luck. later on, i called courtesy nissan, and the dudes said that they never heard of any maxima without the s&c package. mine does dude.
and i can't seem to work it.
can someone help me out?

I'm glad the location of the "brain" was discovered.

The "Security and convience" package theory is BS. There's so many different things attributed to the trim package, or because it's an SE-L, or because it had the "S&C" package. It's all BS. I'm sure when the cars left the factory, they followed an order of what options they recieved, but when they were purchased, things were changed at the dealer. Then, if they were traded in, certain things were changed for the resale. Now, as owners, we change and mod them again. The only sure way to know if it will work on your trim package is to test it out.

Because it's $40 compared to $500+ for a decent alarm plus installation. Also, a stock alarm is a deductible on your insurance.

I'm willing to throw some money into this, where can i get a new "brain"?

Uh, LUGA. Did you by any chance install the RELAYS and fuses that are needed to run the thing? Didn't think so.

No Luck

I have tried to install the brain and got no response from it at all. I know the brain and remote works becuase I swaped it for a test in a max with one installed. I tested the wires with a multimeter at the harness and there is NO power. I checked the fuse panel and relays (That I know of) and can't find anything missing. Any suggestions??????? Where do I go from here??????

Ok guys. I may have figured this out. Somebody buying a car from the dealership I work at wanted keyless (it was an escort), and the mechanic had to install an antenna above the headliner that picked up the signal. Whoever is trying this should look into that.

i called up courtesy nissan today and had an interesting chat with one of the guys there about this.

1. Appearently a new "brain" is $400 brand spankin new. The remotes, however, are not included.
2. The "brain" is completely plug and play.
3. There are no other relays or modules required with this.

Now to everyone who is going to ask: I have a 99 SE-L ------> WITHOUT <------- the security and convience package, or leather seats, sunroof, heated mirrors, etc. My car is a plain old run of the mill maxima with no options other than what i've installed after purchasing the car. As a matter of fact, i had to install the variable wipers after i bought the car (Very very simple, and extremely worth it). I do, however have the little flashing "security" light, and it does blink after i've turned off the car and removed the key.

Now i have a couple of questions to anyone who has participated in this thread or just happened to stumble onto it:

1. Where are you people buying your "brains" for $40? Are they new or used?
2. Where in the hell can i get an A32 service manual for under $140? (this is what nissan is charging)
3. Nupe, i am somewhat local, so if you would like to try a swap, i'm ready willing and able.

I'm also guessing that a lot of people who have tried this are using used "brains" from wrecked maximas. I don't know how well this works in the experiment. I'm thinking that there might be a "kill switch" involved somehow. The same way that HID headlights are useless after an accident, or how we need our keys programmed if we want duplicates. I think there might be something that identifies each individual unit with a particular car. I dunno, just a theory.

Take it from me, I wanted to put stock keyless entry in my car. I bought the keyless remote and after that bought the keyless entry unit in the truck still didn't work. I had to go to the junkyard and buy the Body Control Module and installed it and started to work but not quiet. My car was the basic of all basics. I didn't have power trunk release so bougth one of them. So finally go it to work. So you need the same keyless entry box and the BCM from the same car and it matter if it auto or manual. So take it from me its not worth it.
