What's your idle RPM?
#2
Immediately after start up mine goes to about 1500 rpm. If it's winter and really cold it will stay there for a short time. Then it drops down to around 1200 rpm for warm up. It continues to drop until the warm idle of 600 or so sets in.
What's yours doing?

6,000 rpm at idle.

uhm, are you sure you didn't drop an extra 0 at the end of that number?

Mine would run up to about 1200-1500 early in the morning or when it was cold...and when it is warmed up it would idles at 700 in park and about 600-700 in drive...now ever since i reset the ECU (about 300 miles ago) the idle is different, its 700 in park and 400-500 in drive, it vibrates the car, and it really annoys me alot! and early in the morny when its warming up it doesnt go past 1000 anymore in park... but it does jump between 700-900... by jumping i mean it revs up on its own...randomly...
i know the idle is supposed to act funny after u reset the ECU but is this normal? after 300 miles?
sorry for stealing the thread but its within the topic

Sorry, one too many zeroes. 600 is correct.
I've recently been worried because in the winter it used to be up around 1300 and I never saw it drop. A few days ago it was really hot and it went to 1300 then immediately within a few seconds dropped to 600. I could feel the engine's sound dying down and everything got quieter. I was afriad the needle was gonna keep going!

For the person with the surging idle, that could be a vacuum leak somewhere. Check your vacuum lines under the hood for cracks. Also check that you aren't getting unmetered air from around the throttle body area (unmetered air is "extra" air that enters the engine after the MAF. The computer doesn't know about this air, and tries to adjust for something it doesn't "know" about).
My '97 auto, when warm, idles just over 600 in drive. In park, it is just over 700. In drive at just over 600, there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel, but not enough to be felt anywhere else.
