Knock Sensor Diagnosis?

Knock Sensor Diagnosis?
seeing how I heard that a bad KS will not light the CEL, is there a way to do a diag on it? Is there anything I need to look for to determin if I have a bad one?
I have a budget y-pipe, frankencar midpipe and cone filter, and I dont feel I am getting the performance that I should be getting. Car felt much better the first couple weeksI had my y-pipe installed, but now it seems slower than a few months ago. I also get this clicking kind of sound when accelerating from 0-20 very faint, but I can hear it, and then it goes away. OIL is new and full, new tires, brakes etc..
thanks for the help (i would do a search, but that feature is disabled right now)

no code being read out. does that definitly mean nothing is wrong with my KS? I even took the car to autozone and had them check with the scanner.
also my gas mileage is starting to really suck. just filled out and mostly highway, only 23.6mpg for 17gallons
