Looking for a 4th gen, got some q's

Ok so i have a third gen, they have a few notorious problems, i was just wondering what problems the 4th gen has. i know the digital ccrap pn the 3rd's go real easy. mines a gxe and i know exhaust studs go bad too.

what goes wrong with the body, engine and interior with a 4th gen???

thanx

For me it's:
replaced all the O2 sensors and knock sensor
the whole exhaust (y pipe flex section frays, cat heatsheild rusted off, hangers rusted off b pipe, and muffler rusted apart) rusts apart
driver's seat (wont recline, brakets broke, and thigh padding wore out from getting in and out) wears out
A/C compressor makes a funny noise, but no probs yet

These could all be from milage, abuse, and Maine winters. What I mean is these things will wear out over time.

Depends on where you live in terms of the rust stuff.

My car's got 209k and I've replaced the KS, water pump, alt., 1 coil pack. and starter.

Maine areas of 4th gen weakness:
Knock sensor(ks)
Water pump
Starter(95/96)
5spd tranny bearings
coil packs(95/96)

This is what I've gatehred from being on the board
Of course there are maintenance items such as brakes, batteries, filters, etc.

The electrical system could use some work. Some Maxima's with certain VINs have an alternator recall.

I've noticed that my headlights dim for a plit second whenever I hit the brake (presumably the brakes lights drain enough power to dim them). This can be rememdied with a Capacitor across the battery terminals, one of those meant for high powered stereo systems. However, this dimming problem doesn't seem to have much adverse effects anywhere else. If you're putting in a high powered sound system, you'll probably want to use a Cap anyway.

Yeah, my alternator's going south pretty quick. Also had the knock/o2 sensor problems.

Hah! That's a pretty rough task provided the Search function isn't available to everyone anymore.

3 weeks of posts... ugh. I can barely imagine wading through all that.

I think this is a pretty good list of common problems, I would add O2 senors to it though.

thanx guys, im searching right now. i found a couple of 5ths and a bunch of 4th gens, i really want a 5spd, but theyre hard to come buy. otherwise, im pretty sure i can find one around here with exactly what i want, kinda like buying one new from the factory wht the opts i want. apart from it being all worn. but those problems seem like the same ones on the third gens.

so what about the bose system, is it as crappy as the 3rd gen one or is it better? any problems with the auto, like first/second changes. is the auto a 4spd with od that you can switch on and off or is it just built in. does it have a power/comfort switch? are the guages pretty withholding. im really just wondering what in general are problems or inconveniences. im trying to decide whether to just look for a 5spd 3rd gen or pay the money and go with a 4th gen
