Purchased My First Car and its a MAXIMA!

Purchased my first car today from a private party.

98SE Black on Black - AUTO
Fully Loaded
54900 Miles
Price: $8750
SUPER CLEAN CAR!

Looking forward to learning new things from this forum and from all the maxima owners.

The Power Steering was replaced and my friend test drove it and said when turning, it requires a bit extra on turning the wheel than his honda accord. Meaning when you turn slightly it doesnt react until you turn more.

Is this normal for Maxima? than requires extra turning than other cars?

Thanks

my steering is pretty twitchy, requires almost no strength at all. Alot of people who drive my car think its overboosted but i think its perfect

First of all congratulations on the Maxima. For the price you paid, it seems like you got a pretty good deal. 55K is very low mileage.

Second, I've thought that the Maxima's steering is light or at least equally weighted compared to other cars. I'm not sure if this represents a difference between the SE and the GXE/GLE (mine is a GXE), maybe someone else would know about that. Although it does feel light, it always feels accurate, and has almost no on-center "dead spot." Cruising is a joy and parking is made much easier with this "boosted" power steering. Of course, it is not ideal for "spirited" driving.

I have a 95 SE and the steering feels accurate and definitely a lot lighter than my Toyota Tundra.

i had a 94 accord before and my 95 maxima hasa much looser feeling, i think they corrected teh steering issue in 99 or 98 maybe? it mightve been much looser int he previous years, but they stiffened it up a bit after that

Welcome. It's a great car. You'll be happy with it (although stick around here too long and you'll wish you got a 5speed).

Unforturnately its not a Wood Trim. I will Take some more pictures soon.

She is a beauty and she will treat me good, unlike my girlfriend.

As for the manual, Yes you guys are right, sooner or later I would want a Manual. I saw a nice manual for sale on an auction with pretty good pricing but am a new driver.

My friend keeps on saying: "with a manual your right hand will always be on the stick shift instead of fondling a girl next to you.

Loving the Heated Seats on a freaken cold day in NY.

Congrats! You won't regret your decision.
Do you have any of the service records? At 60K we typically change the spark plugs, filters, and coolant. If you use premium gas (what's up with the prices lately??) and keep her maintained, she'll treat you right.

Good luck...

Great car find!!! I really hope that you enjoy that car. Cars like that are hard to find.

As the fondling thing just let her sit on the shifter and shift for you. She'll have a great time and she'll put on a great show for you.

There is no need for premium gas if nothing has been done to the car. It was designed for reg unleaded, and unless you put some performance mods on it, it the higher octane gas does nothing but run up your bill more. Synthetic oil (Mobil 1) would be a good suggestion, as well as the other 60k mile things stated above^^^^^^^^.

Add some Ebay clear corners and you will be happy. That was my first cheap mod. I've done all the other cheap mods by now. Enjoy them while you can.

I wish I had some heated leather seats.

Good buy.

Its better that you don't have wood trim. That way you can get a dash kit put on which will look much better.

Finally got the car last night and drove it.....AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Took it to a car shop:

Did the Inspection, Oil Change, Coolant and ALL NEW BRAKE PADS.

Spend $30 To Fill the Tank with Premium. The Manual Suggested Unleaded Premium.

-What else should I do? Someone suggested the Spark Plugs & Filters. Anything Else?

Thanks

P.S Will Take Some Pictures Under The Hood Soon.

Speaking of budget.....get a budget y-pipe and an intake off of e-bay. Then you will be really grinning.
Im sure those will be your first mod related questions.

First of all here is a site full of things you can do yourself or with a buddy.
http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...tegories&cid=2

Secondly the spark plugs dont really need to be changed until about 100k Miles.
Did you check the compression in each of the cylinders? That will tell you if one of the plugs is misfiring. I think the stock spec is 180-190 PSI.
Then look into cleaning your Throttle Body => http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/517
And change your fuel filter with your next oil change. Most people do not even know about the fuel filter and never change it on the car. It will keep your max healthy and only costs about $10 and needs to be replaced every 15k miles.
