wiper transmission

the metal bar conneted to the windsheild wipers motor keeps getting diconnected from the other metal bar connected to the wipers... I've tried tieing string really tight around, so they wouldn't disconnect but had no luck.. when I went to the mechanic, they said $80 for a new 'wiper transmission'.. There's gotta be some sort of clip type thing or something that I could just use to clip the two bars in place or something...? I don't want to spend $80 + labour for something that could've been fixed with a new little round plastic peice replacing the old one..

anyone know a good cheap way of fixing this?

Thanks in advance

um...what are you talking about? it would help if you took a picture or something. There is no such thing as a wiper transmission, maybe a wiper motor?

Sorry, that's just what the mechanic said... wiper transmission..

I took a pic..
A is connected to the motor, and is supposed to clip ontop of B.

I went to a salvage yard and got the transmission for $35, and it took about 1/2 hour to install. It will keep coming off unless you replace that round ball. It,just snaps into place. The hardest part(which really isn't difficult) is taking off the wiper and the plastic cover just below the windshield.

go to the salvage yard.....or you can do the Euro wiper conversion (if the driverside transmission is the only one broken lol) there is no way to fix it without buying a new rod thingy, since the plastic (which is warn out right?) is molded to the metal.

my fault man. I had never heard of a wiper transmission before. I stand corrected! *gracefully bows out*

damn damn damn

that really sucks.. I guess noone knows of an easier/cheaper way?

maybe I'll just drill a hole right through the center of both where they connect and stick a custom pin through...

thanks for all your input

well a way that worked 4 my cousin is to remove the whole plastic socket thing and just place the rod over the ball thing. This makes a whole lot of play in the wiper movement but it worked 4 us, but i dont recommend it. Id try putting a screw threw the socket straight into the ball so it still pivots/swings on the same axis. I dont think this will work though.
