What kind of a SHORT THROW SHIFTER should I get??
I saw a few for my 98 Maxima SE 5spd, but I'm told some are better than others. One of them is on www.stillen.com for $250, B&M is $150 and OBX(Ebay) is $40. I don't know the difference, but I want the shifter to be shorter and also have a shorter throw which should be smooth. Please let me know if you own any of the 3 above and how would you rate them? Thanks.

B & M being the best for the money, but i am personally gettting a pacesetter short throw shifter. Nice thing about the Pacesetter is that it is adjustable. You can adjust the height so you can have throws from like 30 to 80 % shorter. Some people swear only by B & M because they like to grind it till they find it and really abuse the shifter. I do nice clean throws as it is, i just want to get the speed im missing because of the shorter throw.
here is the link. You may be able to find it cheaper, but i am going to use them bacause they brighten up my Saturday mornings with all the Babes they show on 2NR TV.
use www.nopionline.com to put in your precise year.
Here is the link for the photo, and the general info. The price should be the same. Just be sure to find you year and dont use the model # off this link.

I have the stillen STS. If my shifter is representative of all the other stillen STS's out there, then I do not reccomend it. Mine is really "notchy" you have to tug on it to get to the next gear. It does, however, have a lot shorter throw than stock. My cousin uses the Pacesetter STS on his, and that even seems decent enough.

how much does it cost to install?
I was wondering how much it would cost to install a short throw shifter on a 98 Maxima SE. How many hours do you think it will take for a mechanic to do it. Also, does anyone have the OBX short throw shifter? And what about all the problems with the 1st gear shift with B&M? How long does it take to break in the shifter? Who can install a shifter? and finally does B&M come with any kind of a warranty? Please let me know.

the shifter upgrade is an easy 30 - 60 minute install. It is strickly bolt on, and all you have to do is pop out the dash/tray around the shifter, break out the wrenches and go to town.
go buy a shifter, break out the tool box, and go to town.

...learn something and don't pay anyone to do it for you. If you were in TX I would help you.

I have one of those cheap 20 dollar shifters off ebay. Probably not even obx. It fit perfect, and feels perfect. Not notchy at all. Feels like the car should have come with it. Don't see a need to buy a 140 dollar one.

Im running a pacesetter short throw set at about 65% shorter throw and its great, sits about an inch lower then stock and the throws are precise. Takes a lil more power to get it into gears, but thats pretty normal. 3rd gear is SLIGHTLY notchy (depends on your setting), but you cant avoid notchyness with any short shifter. Cant beat the pacesetter price of 75 shipped from CustomMaxima.com...

I have a stillen short shifter...I personally like it. I don't have anything else to compare too. But the stillen is a much shorter throw, alot shorter. The stick is about the same height as the stock shifter. The only down side to the stillen is what ilumo said earlier that it's a little on the notchy side. And you have to sometimes really push on the stick to get in gear.

anyone having to gorrilla slam the stick into gear, then you either installed it wrong, got the wrong shifter model, or dont need to be driving a stick.
only times i have known people to break shifters where during street races where you just throw it into gear and dont even use the clutch.

I dont do it. Im not that dumb. I just know that friends in highschool would do it since it was a faster (albeit dumber) way to shift.

I still dont see how its faster? I cant even pull my car outta gear without the clutch. Now my friends old TSi, you could take it outta gear and throw it into the next but at very low speeds with grinding sometimes.
