My mom took her 99 Maxima with 70,000 miles into a tire place to get the tires rotated. When she left, they had her replace the front rotors and pads and re-balance the tires. The brake pads have never been replaced nor have the wear sensors ever sounded. I drove the car a week before and everything seemed fine! No squeels from the pads, no spongyness from the brakes and no unbalanced wheel feel.

Can pads with 70k wear down the rotors befor they even wear out?? They charged her $250.

sounds like the pads where changed accordingly... i'm not sure about the rotors.. i usually resurface mine, but the price is descent. new rotors and pads will run about 150+ service...

70K on pads is A LOT. Lesson here is to never let a non-car enthusiast woman get any kind of service done to her car without someone there to tell herr she don't need that ****. Wheel balancing for what? The price wasn't bad but she had **** done she didn't need...

Impossible to tell w/o actually looking at the pads/rotors. But off hand, if you got 70k out of a set of pads and they only charged you $250 for everything, you actually got a decent deal.

Yeah, I dunno if he was just trying to stir the pot or he was serious. He also said 70k on the pads is a lot, which I don't think is true either. I did my own pads at 57k or so and they were barely over 50-60% spent. Friend who saw the pads said probably due to the 5spd.

I got new pads and rotors the day I bought the car. 10K miles later the pads were 1/4" thick and and the rotors were done also. What I said earlier about women, it's true. Women with no automotive knowledge get ripped off all the time. A mechanic tells them something is wrong and she believes him. They take advantage of women like that...

Brake pad wear is 90% function of the driver. If you can anticipate the stop or drive the freeway alot, you will get alot of miles on your pads. If you do alot of city driving and/or wait until the last minute to use the brakes, they will wear much faster. My mom used to KILL brakes. Vroom! and then eerrrrt! Very hard on the brakes

Not sure what their labor rates are but its usually about 1hr for front pads and .5 to resurface one rotor and add usually anoterh .3 for the second (on the 4th gens). I wil lhave to check my labor manual for the exact numbers.

I think that is a decent price, especially if the rotors were changed also. My parents 99 Max had the brake pads-front and rear replaced at about 50K. I was shocked that they wore that fast, but they were checked at both Nissan, and a tire place. The front rotors were turned-I told them if it did not cost much more than labor, that new front rotors would be better-but they said new rotors were really expensive. Any way, 70K and 250 dollars is great in my opinion.
