Tokico shocks suck

Tokico shocks suck
I installed them 2 months ago and now one is already broken. I dont know if it's because I drive in NYC, but I expected it to last anyway. Does anyone know what I can replace them with, that would last on NYC roads?
ps: i have Eibach springs

How low was ur drop? i think if ur drop wasn't lower than 1.5 there's still a warranty on those shocks.

Did you get the Illumina's?

Blues do not work well with lowering springs. At least none that are lower than 1.5. The dampening force required is more than the blues can handle. The illuminas are a better shock and will last you longer here in NYC. I should know since i live here
You may want to consider the illuminas or the KYB AGX's. the KYB G-2 are fine if you dont care for the adjustability... they are similarly priced to the blues.

Don't question the price.

Bro,
The only shocks that will handle the Eibach springs are the adjustable shocks ex. Illuminas, AGX, or the Koni, set close to their firmest setting. This is only for the rear. The fronts you can go with the Gr2s or the AGX, but if you want a smooth ride I'd suggest you go with the Tokico Illuminas. If you're going to do something do it right the first time and spend less money in the end. I've learned that the hard way bro.
Peace.

just because you mismatched them with your springs, doesnt mean they're bad shocks. do the wise thing - SEARCH, and take advice from the posts.

question: To anyone who has had a blown shock in the front, how did you diagnose your problem?
I have sprint/koni in the front, and the passenger side makes a lot of noise when going over light bumps etc.
Klunk klunk Klunk. sounds like something is loose. Could this be a blown strut?
I tried pressing down on the front end to see if it is bouncy but it's not.

Blown struts leak oil/fluid, make the car bounce and sway, and if you take them off you can compress them with minimal effort. It's a known fact that any aftermarket spring needs an aftermarket heavy duty/adjustable dampener. Stock or OEM replacements (ie Tok. HP) just dont have what it takes to last.
Any aftermarket dampener will work fine with stock springs.

makes me wonder if i have blown stuts or just noisy ones...whenever i go over large bumps/divids, my car makes that klunk noise...im thinking its just th enoise of the springs/struts...how can you tell if its actually blown..i have no experience with struts....had them installed professionally.

maybe they are hitting the bump stops? I read somewhere on here that a couple guys recomened getting a certain bumpstop or something of that nature, to allow the strut/shock to travel more up and down. Any know anythin about this? I'm not sure.

ok guys I see alot of debating, so my question is what is this best shock spring combo for our gen 4's. The reason I ask is because, like alot of the org members I 2 am moding on a budget, but will spend a little more if in the long run it will be worth it. (Saving 4 a turbo)

There is no "best" setup. People will argue and argue till the world blows up into small pieces. For one of the lowest and most even drops id say go with the new Teins/Illuminas (PM Big_ham). Hes one of the first to get them on and the drop is short of spectacular. I have yet to ride in them, but i imagine its better than my blown struts/B+G spring setup...
Oh yeah, and i also have that annoying clunking noise in my front struts and a horrible LOUD clunking in my rear (which sits lower than my front). Leads me to believe my rear is bottoming out...
EDIT: tokico blues are OEM replacement struts not meant to handle most lowering springs, hence why sooo many people complain them blowing...

it's really comfusing cuz people are giving so many different opinions and advice. I got the point that Tokico HP's are not to be paired with lowering springs. But what about the GR-2s? they're non-adjustable but can they withstand lowered springs? Some people say that lowering springs are ONLY to be paired with adjustable shocks. To the people who say this: Does this apply to Maxspeed & H&R's too? Cuz these two set of springs that I just mentioned, some people don't even consider it a drop. And people at another forum are saying that Illuminas blow also. They say that AGX's are much better than Illuminas, which is it? So basically, i dunno wat to believe. I'm a college student on a budget, I don't wanna spend 500 bux for a set of shocks that i won't be using to its full potential, and I'd like to save money by spending less money on something that's good enough. So, knowing that I have Maxspeed springs, can GR-2's handle the drop?

well whatever you decide, know this.
if youre going to lower the car, youre going ot need higher dampening shocks to offset the stiffer springs. Tokico's are known to be on the soft side, but anything else (koni, kyb agx's, illuminas) should suit your car nicely to a mild drop. just know that your ride will be compromised in favor of handling.

Gr-2 are set just like AGX on 2/4 (15% stiffer then stock), thats why they can take a bit of a drop.
The best combo depends on your taste (DUH!) Illuminas for comfort, Konis for handling, and AGX for price.....but if you have the money get what you want.
