I have 95 Max GLE, but i don't like the 95 headlights.
I want to put 97 headlight( the whole headlight casing of 97) in my car. But does it fit?
has anyone tried this?

also, i want to buy new bulbs, which ones are good?
i know PIAA is good but too expensive and i heard about other hyper white bulbs but ppl say that they don't last long (about 3 months).
what bulbs last long and looks good??

thanx

I think you need to swap out the bumper and grille at the same time. It's a different shape as well as a different inside design.

I was in the same situation as you. I had the stock 96 headlights with my Piaa 9004 super whites and they looked ok. I bought my new 97 headlights from EMAX95 and used the same Piaa bulbs in them and let me tell you, they are the closest to HID as your gonna get for the max. I tried every "super white bulb" out there APC, Eurolite, etc... they look good with that blueish tint to them, but they dont compare to the PIAA's. And because the lenses on the 97-99 headlights is one solid piece and not rippled looking like on the 95-96 the light is much clearer and more defined looking. I think they look brighter too. I also had to re-aim the headlights a few times to get them where i wanted them. That was the biggest pain but i got it finally.

As for the fittment, there was one thing that didnt line up exactly. When you remove the corner lense next to the headlight you will see x2 10mm bolts. The holes that are drilled out for them didnt line up with my 97 headlights, so i got my drill and a drilled the hole out to make everything line up. The rest of the bolts line up exactly.
I had my stock 96 grille on for a bit after the swap but then bought the SMX grille and still fits perfectly fine, no problems!!
E-mail me if you have any questions about the install.

HEy Brian.....

I think you could just put the 97's in with the regular 95 grill.

Yeah I'm not positive, but I'm just recalling what I thought I read about this stuff before. However, it does looks like our bumpers are shaped different, and the lights are slightly different in shape.

It does fit

My sister has a 95 maxima se. well i got a set of the 97 maxima headlights for her car and the 97 corner lights. the headlight does fit with the stock light bracket for the 95 maxima. she still has the same grille (1995) and the same bumper. the only problem i ran into was that i had to keep the 95 wiring harness for the 97 corners cuz in the 95 the light stays on when you put the blinker on.

so in short, the 97 headlights do fit in the 95 maxima, but i would also do the 97 corner lights to match.

Since most ppl answered about the headlights, I'll answer about the bulbs

Try looking into some Philips Blue Visions. Real bright and at a fraction of the cost of PIAA's. They can be found at the local K-Mart, Pep Boys, AutoZone or the like. I changed from stock to imitation HID blue headlights. Looked cool but couldn't see crap when it rained. Now, it's much better. Use the search and read up about them. There was a huge long discussion and comparision about them a while back.

Good luck.

Well I know that a 97 headlight assembly fits in fine because my right headlight is from a 97. Some punk kids with a rake broke my old one and I went to a junk yard and he pulled it off a 97 and it fit fine. No new grille needed.

The junkyard guys charged me $55 for the whole thing. Better than 200 from the dealership.

I have a 97 GXE and I want to get a SMX grill. I was wondering if there is any difference with the way the 95-96 grill will fit with the 97 bumber. I know you switched out the 96 lights to 97, but the bumper looks a little different to me.
Any help is appreciated.
Very Respectfully,
QBERT

Headlights

I have a 96 Max andI bought 97 headlamps about a year ago and have had people flashing their brights at me ever since. I can not get those M/F's to fit right. I saw mentioned that there were "holes" to drill for a good fit. The way they are set up right now is that the beams point too high and they are adjusted as low as I can go. PLEASE HELP ME...

well, I've done the 9004 to 9007 conversion on my 96 GXE with stock hardness, a huge improvement and well worth the 20min mod! But is it worthwhile to swap the headlight unit to 97~99? or should I better off spend the money on a PIAA 1400 driving light? I do lots of driving at night so in the past I can't see too well with the old POS 9004 LOL
