HOW you drive is VERY important...keep shifting
over 3000 RPMS and your gas goodbye!!!

as for me...

97 SE Auto
190K KMs (about 130K miles)
medium
about 500KMs per tank (380 Miles)
70% city, 30% highway

I range between 20-29MPG

I needed to add too that the miles per tank indicated is with the AC turned on all the time since its been 105+ degrees out here in Vegas during the last few weeks. It's cooled off just a tad now but I still use my AC, even at night.

No link, but, this is the basic idea:

1) remove fuel pump fuse.

2) start car -- your car will die, because there is no fuel being sent.

3) keep trying to start your car, many times...what you're doing is
trying to completely eliminate ALL of the pressure in the fuel
line -- this will make removing the fuel filter MUCH easier.

4) find the fuel filter -- it's on the driver's half of the engine
bay, attached to the firewall, in a metal C-clip (don't know how
else to describe it)...if you buy a new filter from the store,
you'll know what it looks like (even better -- buy a 300ZX filter).

5) remove the two hoses...this can be a BIT*H to do, so, be patient!
if it WON'T come off, you should try to relieve more pressure in
the lines by trying to start the car. If you're REALLY desperate,
you can cut the rubber hose (but, I STRONGLY suggest you don't).

6) attach new filter.

7) place back in C-clip.

one note: the fuel filter has an arrow on it -- check what direction
the arrow is pointing BEFORE you remove the old one and make sure
that the new filter's arrow points the same way...
otherwise, you'll have little to no fuel getting into your engine.

if the filter comes off easy, you're looking at 15 minutes.

good luck!

i dunno man...i find that my car's running a bit lean
i accelerate hard...but cruise in 4th or 5th gear as much as possible.

also im 5spd...which gives better city gas mileage...worse hwy mileage.

u wanna hear something stupid? that day i went to st. thomas dragway...i got 20 runs at the track...cruising on the highway from 120-180km/h...and i was at 650km on the tank...light didn't even come on...lol

icheban26: make sure the condition of your spark plugs, coils, fuel filter, fuel injectors, etc are up to par.
other than that...tire pressure and driving habits
try to cruise at low rpms...

99 SE auto
93,xxx miles
about 270miles F-E if hubby drives
He averages 20-22 mpg.
If he lets me drive, I average 25-26.
He has a little bit of a lead foot...
And he doesn't coast to a stop on exit ramps and stoplights...
So he pays thru the nose for it.

On my G20 (not really relevant, I know, as I have a 4-banger)...
I get about 370-400 on a tank of 13..
Highest mileage I've gotten, mixed, is 28.7.
Back when I had my '91 Sentra SE, I got 42mpg once, but averaged 33.

My train of thought would be that it is kinda like, but not, straining the engine to work harder???? MAYBE it is too low of a rpm to shift out of gear????? I don't know!

OK I can answer this...I don't think it makes ANY sense on a Max, but back when I had my 1.6 Sentra SE, it couldn't go faster than 60 on this hill on the freeway...one time my husband pushed down on my leg, thinking I was just driving like a granny and the car would go faster...
Well I was in 5th and that means about 2500 RPM at 60 if I remember right and all that happened was the engine got flooded but still wasn't torquey enough to go faster...it actually went slower...all the extra gas just went straight out the exhaust unburned and my mpg really stank that tank.

Well, you said that your car topped out at 60?? Was that all the time? If so, it would be like me hitting the top speed on the car and still mashing the gas. Of course any gas at that point will be wasted. If you could go faster, then the speed would increse. I think that what ivelweyz was saying was shift into the next gear while at 2500 in current gear(4th at 2500 to 5th at whatever)

88,000
Light to Medium 50/50 city highway
Average 320-360 in town
500-515 on road trips
Mobile One Synthetic
K&N drop in

Like the 2DaMax said, I like in Austin and the temp is always at 90+ and we have humidity so the a/c is on. Recent tune up and fuel system cleaning has helped alot.

No, the rev limiter cut the fuel at 118 (I was young & stupid, that's how I found that out) but for that to happen it had to be on somewhat of a downhill slope. The car weighed 2500 lbs and had 110 hp.
The reason that it couldn't go over 60 on this hill was because the engine couldn't produce enough power to overcome wind resistance, gravity, and still accellerate. When I gave it more gas (still in 5th) it didn't go any faster because it couldn't manage to turn the engine faster, thereby turning the wheels faster....so there was more gasoline being dumped into the engine than could be burned at the current RPM.
