STS questions

I just bought a pacesetter sts off of a guy who was using it in his 5th gen maxima. I received it, minus the allen wrench to adjust it or the instructions, he left it assemled, but i was looking at pictures of it assembled on the pacesetter site and the rubber piece that looks like a dust boot, seems to be in the wrong place. the piece isn't damaged, so would it be better to move it, or leave it where it is when i install it? the boot is on the bottom of the shifter instead of right above the adjustment ball. How does the adjustment work, the further up the shaft the shorter the throw, or is it vice versa?

the picture that i was talking about

I had my pacesetter sts installed like a year ago, so I think the rubber piece should go at the bottom of the ball. With regards to adjustment, the further up the shorter the throw.

You should leave the boot just where it is. You can see this picture that the boot is supposed to be located below the pivot ball.

I just installed my Pacesetter STS following these instructions. The write-up is excellent and the pics are invaluable. I had to use a Dremel tool to grind down the diameter of the Pacesetter pivot ball because it was way too big to fit in the holder (or "bearing" as referred to in vbxmaxima's site).

Here's the link: http://www.vbxmaxima.8m.com/shifter.html

It's the 10th picture in that page where it shows the boot on the shaft of the sts.
