Coolant flush technique?

So there's a coolant flush needed for my max soon, and I'm just not prepared to remove the thermostat and both the engine block drain bolts. Do most people just drain and fill from the rad a few times? I think I once read that you can idle the engine while gently overflowing the rad with a hosepipe (a la Haynes page 1-24), where the flow rate of water is enough so the temperature is hot enough to open the thermostat but cool enough to prevent violent boiling (between 180 and 212). Does this sound familiar to anyone? A link would be great, if it exists.

OK, this could have just been born in my head then
I have an accurate thermometer so I guess I might give this a try and report back with the results.
