I dropped off my car at Firestone this morning for my 90,000 mile maintenance (replace air filter, replace fuel filter, radiator system flush, tire rotation, tune up, and complete vehicle inspection).

All that was supposed to cost $278.

They called me later and said that I needed new rotors and a new oil sending unit (the oil sending unit was inexpensive, like $40). The rotors were a lot of money, though. They cost me $434! The total bill was $804! Did I get ripped off?

I'm a little surprised about the rotors. I just had them surfaced in June 2002. Should they go that fast?

The actual rotors themselves were $290. The rest is labor. So looks like the parts weren't SO bad, just the labor is what gets you. Probably would have been much worse at the dealership, though.

For that price, I hope that they offered to use the lube gun on you before handing you the bill, because if not you most likely cannot even sit down to drive.
