Dyno # for 98 auto w/ CAI, Y,CAT,B,Muffler
ok here it is. 166.5HP and 182 TQ
This is with PRCAI, Budget ypipe, RT cat, warpspeed B and HKS muffler.
I guess my car is not a factory freak after all.
stock autos dyno around 145HP I hear. If so, this is a 20HP improvement at the wheels. It doesnt sound like much, but 20HP at the wheels is a big deal. And you get another 20+ HP with MEVI and ECU, which is even a bigger deal.
ps
I had 1 step colder coppers too. And 132k miles on the engine.

i think you bought the wrong car.
even a 5spd won't get 200hp at the wheels with these mods.
JsL, i think you are talking about the 5spd 4th gens, not auto's
hokiemax, the dyno doesn't look bad for an auto

Stock 4th gen 5speeds get ~160 HP to the wheels. Stock 4th gen autos get ~150 HP to the wheels. Some engines are stronger than others, and I've seen autos range from ~145-153.
Even a 4th gen with every single normally aspirated mod available (VI, y-pipe, cat-back, etc) is going to get 200 to the wheels. Best we've seen was 195 at the wheels. Even n/a 5th gens with the more-efficient variable intake only dyno ~205 with all the bolt ones.
The only way to get well over 200 HP to the wheels is to buy a 2002-up Maxima, drop that engine into your pre-2002 Max, or super-, turbocharge, or add nitrous. There are definite ways to get well over 200 HP with a pre-2002 but it'd take innovative, custom work such as a stroker kit (using the VQ 3.5L crank/rods) and cams (actually not custom, avail from JWT now but are $$$).

I guess my point was that if you are looking to get 210-220 at the wheels your are out of luck, s/c or turbo will give you alot more than that but for alot of money.
I dont like nitro either, I only wanna fill up gas.
here is the mod chart:
1) upto $1000 (all bolt ons) 150-166hp
2) upto $2000 (nothing) 200-210hp
3) upto $4200 (boost) 250hp and up
so there is a huge gap in the middle of the mod spectrum.

Some Math examples
Stock 4th gen 190hp
15% loss = 161.5
17% loss = 157.7
20% loss = 152
22% loss = 148.2
25% loss = 142.5
I'm not sure on exact numbers but I believe the manuals have about a 15%-18% loss whereas the autos have about a 20%-25% loss. Don't quote me on the percent loss, but you get the idea.
