Hey whats up.


I saw some pretty nice momo shift *****, particularly the crystal ones, and I think I'm going to buy one. I was wondering if you guys had changed your shift **** and if you had any trouble doing so.

Post pics if you have em, I wanna see some cool ***** ;\

getting the stock **** off can be tricky. if you want to save it, use a heat gun to heat the **** up then put a towel around where you want to apply some vise-grips to the ****, then twist it off. even then you might mess it up. if you are going to trash it, i would still use the heat gun, but you wont have to be nearly as careful trying not to tear up the leather. oh and my **** is in my sig.

I did what Requin6 mentioned and used a piece of cloth around the very base of the shiftknob then grabbed it with some pliers.. it didn't work all that well and I did mess the leather up a little bit since I twisted right over it without moving the **** a millimeter.

Eventually I got it off using my hand, it was hard as f-ck to do, but you just have to use all your force and twist it.. then it gets easier.. you just have to move it..



as far as aftermarket *****..

there are 3 concerns to me when getting one:

1- new shiftknob might sit higher than the stock one.
this happens quite often and both of the ***** I bought sat higher, which looked like crap and was terribly uncomfortable.

2- new shiftknob might come loose easily.
Some of the shiftknobs are attached by 3 screws around the base of the shiftknob. These things are quite annoying and even if you tighten them as hard as you can, they will loosen up very quickly.. For me it was a matter of a less than an hour of driving.. maybe it was just the **** i got but that really sucked..

3- the universal fit adjustment inserts are plastic and the treat will get messed up quickly..
The universal ***** like Momo, are made to fit most vehicles.. the thickness of the shift rod is different on many so the **** itself usually has a huge opening and when you buy the ****, the package has a bunch of inserts, which fit right into the **** and they have a hole as well, which is a different size. You pick the insert that has the hole which is good for your shifter and then screw the insert into the shift ****, then screw the shiftknob, with the insert inside, onto the shift rod.
This process can be tricky, because these inserts are very soft plastic and the tread can get f-cked up easily..



I'm going to cut my stock shift rod down an inch or so and find a nice, comfortable **** that will fit without problems..

make sure you get a **** with an O/D button if you're auto

As far as theallen screw type shift *****, use some trim glue made by 3M. It did the trick for me. Now the aftermarket shift **** does not come loose.

My **** came off without too much fight. I used a pair of rubber dish gloves to get a good grip.

taking mine off was a Bioch, used a towel and vise grips, but still tore up the stock one. I put momo's on. I ended up cutting about an inch off the stick to make it look good

use a strap wrench and you will not have to use profanity to describe removing the shift ****.

I usually have to be the one to suggest the miata *****, so here goes...

phaze - the stock thread length on our rides is the same as Mazdas...so all of the many aftermarket ***** made specifically for the miata will screw in perfectly, with no universal allen screw like the momo *****.

I'd think if you looked hard enough you could find any design you wanted, at a good price.
