Possible to break welds inside muffler (baffles)??
Well I have a budget Y - over a year now.
Last month I got a 2.5" catback welded onto a flowmaster muffler.
Last week I replaced the cat with a strait test pipe.
Before I removed the cat, I was experiencing a loud metal rattling at certain rpm's - but nothing too major.
Now that the cat is off I sound like pots and pans clanging together at all rpm's above 2k and below 5. Especially loud when I gas it hard from a stop or simply rev the engine while in park.
Idle sounds heavenly though, as well as low rpm's when I cruise.
No metal/metal contact - like heat shields....
No leaks....
Y pipe is good as the day I bought it....
If you lay back there by the mufffler and someone revs the engine its clearly the muffler making the hideous noises....
Someone suggested to me that since my muffler is not strait through, that the max's Exhaust velocity is too powerful for a chambered muffler, like the flowmaster with V shaped baffles in it.
I want this noise to be gone and I am about to try out no muffler, and a strait through fart can I have laying around to help me isolate the noise for sure.
Does everyone with strait exhaust no cats have this noise to deal with??? Please help me...........
