ECTS temperature range??

I was thinking of changing the coolant temeperature sensor. I checked
the Hayne's manual which says that a good ECTS should have following
readings:
Engine coolant temperature 68F, ECTS resistance 2.1 - 2.9 Kohms
Engine coolant temperature 194F, ECTS resistance 0.24 - 0.26 Kohms

I bought a new ECTS from courtsey nissan and found the readings
are quite different. I am getting,
Engine coolant temperature 68F, ECTS resistance 9.5 Kohms
Engine coolant temperature 194F, ECTS resistance 4.4 Kohms

Does it mean that newly bought ECTS is bad? Also, I am getting the
similar readings from my old ECTS and thats the reason I bought
the new one to replace it.

Thanks

My Haynes manual says the same thing. What year is your car? Is it a Cali Spec? I wonder if some changes were made to the Cali Spec cars which include some sensor changes. The 99 Cali Spec Maxima shares some parts with the 5th gen Max's. That sensor may be one of them.

No my car is not cali spec. I am from Texas.
Do you mean to say that the readings I am getting, belong to ECTS
of 5th gen. maxima.

Can I replace my 1993 maxima SOHC ECTS with this one?

Wait a second here. There are 2 water temp sensors. One is called the ECTS which the ECU reads and the other is used only for the gauge inside the car. I wonder if the guy gave you the sensor for the gauge inside the car and not the one that the ECU uses. That would make sense with the reading you got.

And I don't think your 93 would use the same sensor as the 95-99 years. Then again......

No the guy gave me the sensor which gives reading to the ECU. So it is
not the one used for gauge. I dont know what should I do?

So it means I have been given a defective ECTS?

Thanks
