EBAY aluminum dash kits...dam i know i shouldn't go for it but...

what are your inputs guys?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1871489660

the price seems hella good versus custom maxima's 195 but i'm worried about fitment issues, these pealing during hot weather, who knows. Have any of u experienced with these "ebay" dash kits? are they any good?

if they aren't, are there any dash kits for less than 195 that you have seen work well under all conditions? or should i just stop being cheap and run after the custom maxima one....

Ask for a sample. Most will send one. Some charge $5. Its worth the $5 to see if you'll like it or not. I got 5 samples before I bought my CF kit, and it was worth it, because almost all of them were fake except the one I got.

dam i don't know what's fake or not. I'm more concerned of how well it will last in bad weather, like if sun shines on it too long or something. Do fake ones normally mess up? i am seriously debating between this and custom maxima. Big difference in price. the profit margin can't be the only factor between the two right?

My personal preference is the OEM wood dash kit is fine w/ the number of peices it has.... if there was too much, it'd make it look like a granny car lol. I don't like the quality of the OEM dash kit... not because it's not real wood but because over time w/ the sun, the peice underneath the air vents has started to bubble a bit and ****es me off everytime i look at it.

OMG! that happened to me too! didn't bother me but i'm surprised we have same kit and same problems....

anyway, i di da little research and stumbled upon joshua tree aluminum dash and this:

http://www.autoaccessorystore.com./home.asp?dir=model

both were recommended by people on org but the joshua doesn't go up the the vents and the other one seems real good but i just need someone to tell me the 411 on it...

i'll bring in more updates on my search if i find something new

www.autoaccessorystore.com is also selling their kits on e-bay.
Their userid is "wehavegoods", based on their feedbacks they should be OK.

wow and its 125 on here vs. 180 on their site!

they are also located in NJ. I'm going to check out their spot and pick it up locally. That way if it sucks i know where they are located to do an exchange or return

What Greg sells is real aluminum, anything you find on eBay is not. There is only one shop that makes real aluminum on a production scale, and that's us. Custommaxima, SWA, and Joshua Tree are all supplied by us. The manufacturing costs are significantly higher for real metal, hence the price difference. It's your call though, just thought I'd answer the question on whether or not it was real.

I could be wrong, but that pic they show of a civic dash does not look like real aluminum. Remember, you get what you pay for. I would go with a recommended dealer like AP-Signworks or Joshua Tree. It may cost a little more, but it's better than taking a chance.

Looking at the 2 layout sheets, the kits are made by the same company. I'm almost positive that guy selling on eBay is selling Alkaplus kits. It's not under their usual seller ID, but the prices and layout sheets are identical. Plus there are not that many shops that make cheap dash kits. None of the big companies, Superior, B&M, Florida Auto Trim will sell kits that low, only Alkaplus and a couple of other companies will.

hey shadow, how much is your kit? and how many pieces does it come with? the best price i saw was that SWA place which is selling it for 172.99 now. Could u beat that price?

Also some people say the FAKE kits are actually better than the real because the real dent up fast and also have sharp ends or something like that...i rather get real, well i want to get the one Pearl96max has. He's the only one i seen in person and it looks perfect. Wherever he got his from i'm willing to get mine from there as well, just not for no 180+ dollars

shiny aluminum =

looks cheap to me if aluminum is shiny and glossy like in that pic. It enhances the cheap bubble look.

Anyone else with the maxima had a more bmw/audi design in terms of dash kits. What i mean is the horizontal dash pieces instead of just the thing down the center................

I agree. A brushed or satin finish is best.

I was looking at this ebay deal too. Unfortunately, it seems too good of a price to be legit. I definitely think a brushed Aluminum dash kit in a black max looks great...

Alka Plus

I bought a kit from these guys about 1 1/2 years ago. So far so good. As far as the heat and peeling off, I live in Hawaii, it don't get much hotter and humid than here.

We have a satin finish that's almost a dead on match for the new BMW's. We have a kit for that car and the satin matches the factory metal really well.

We've had satin finished dash kits for maximas for a long time, but noone wanted it, just brushed so we never pushed it as hard.

My kit is $265 Can't undercut my dealers. If you want the kit we make, SWA is the cheapest option and we won't go below that.

Fake kits aren't better than the real kits, it's a matter of personal taste. Yes, the real aluminum dents more easily and has sharper edges, but that's the nature of metal. The fake kits just look kind of cheap, really tacky and shiny. And it's really thick so it has that bubble look.

i'm not sure what i want cause i don't know what it is called.

All i know is that i seen Pearl96max car in person, the only one i ever seen in person with aluminum kit. He told me he had the fake one, it was a 30 piece set, he didn't pay no 200 for it and it looks real good. Its not white, its like brushed aluminum with like a small polished layer on top of it type of thing, i don't know how to call it. He's trying to find out where he got it from but i wish he had pics so i can compare to the ones on the net. I see a lot of kits that i like on here but the only one i know i will definitely like is hte one he got cause iseen it in person...

Also what pieces are missing in the 19 piece kit vs 30 piece?
