CEL with my crankshafts... ahhh!
Ok,
I get in my (new to me) 95 GXE last thursday (10/3) and my CEL is on. I only slightly panic because my starter had been making that funny noise, but I had just bought the car 8 days prior. So I decide Friday to pop off the plastic and find out what the hell is going on. I read the code 0407 and the diagnoses says "Crankshaft Position sensor (reference)." Now this sounds very scary to me and explains why my starts are soooo much uglier now.
Does anyone know how the hell i'm supposed to fix this (ie Buy the sensor and replace it myself) or should I take it up to Courtesy and have them fix it. I know they're supposed to be the coolest here in Dallas, but wtf?

Get a Haynes manual and use it to help you troubleshoot your car. Once you've determined the problem decide whether or not it's something you can fix. If it turns out to be the sensor it's very easy to replace and is discussed in the Haynes manual - diy. Good luck.
