PR!! 6-Disc indash cd player/MP3 radio for BOSE cars
#41
They're both "Bose" HUs, the 4th gen one is manufactured by Clarion and this one by Panasonic, I believe Bose just designs the units. The HU bulbs are likely to outlast your car - I wouldn't worry about that.

The problem I have is that there are Bose and Rockford Fosgate models of this exact HU. The only difference on the front is that they say thier name. As far as the connections in the back, the "no name HU" (the one for sale) and the Rockford Fosgate HU are exactly the same. The Bose HU has a different antenna connection and a additional connection. I am not sure if new Nissans with the Rockford Fosgate Package got the same HU but better speakers or if the HU is different internally. And what is different with the new Bose HU's. I was also reading that the "no name HU's" and Rockford Fosgate HU's still used the external amp, if so how can this HU sound any better if it is still using the same Bose amp already installed. I still think this HU is bad ***, but does anyone know more about this?

Just picked up my car from Kevin's garage and I am in love! This radio does sound better--not sure how-but it sounds cleaner at higher volume, and is a bit louder at close to the max.
The color doesn't bother me at all---I left my gauge lights stock. It is a soft, easy on the eyes orange glow. Kevin's brackets are insane! He makes these things look better than the stock radio. There is NO gap at all, perfectly flush.
I'll post some pictures of it tomorrow.

Is this entirely plug and play? or is there a modification to the wiring involved?
What is "a 3m quick-splice"?
NEVER MIND: found it. Jumper K and D (rear amp turn on and ACC).

I am very interested in this for my 99 Maxima with Bose.
1. Are these units re-manufactured/refurbished, brand new, or used?
2. If refurbished, what was originally wrong with them, what vehicles are they out of, and are you the one who refurbishes them?
3. Will the RDS function work when I install the unit in my car? Also, will the power antenna come out when CD's are playing or will it function the same as it does now-only when tuner is selected?
4. Will this come with instructions for installation?
5. Is it plug and play?
6. Where are you located?
Thanks

The RDS function will work just fine, and it is very cool BTW.
Also displays the title of the song on CD/MP3, if it was recorded that way.
The power antenna does extend & retract with the radio on/off, and will retract when selecting the CD function. So you don't look like a dork all the time with the antenna out playing CD's.

I'm not selling these, but I do have one so I can answer these two questions.

I'm not sure, I just know that I burned a disc from my computer with about 140 MP3 songs. The titles show up from those, but not the artist.

Thanks for the reply. Did you buy this unit from the seller here or did you get it from someone else? What Nissan models and year came with these units? If you are running the unit through the 98 I30 Stock Bose speakers, which are the same as the Maxima's, how satisfied are you with the sound?

No problems at all oldngiveout, you've answered a bunch of questions for me, but I liked the TT in your av better
Rockart, it's just a mint condition steering wheel from a '96 Infinitar, the only thing different is the I30 grill emblem that has been shaved down & epoxied to the airbag.

Yeah you'll have to give me a call, unfortunatly I can't keep up with the volume of pm's I was getting from 'feelers' about various jobs & parts, and since people tend to only call when they are at least somewhat serious about things it's much better this way.
I have one possibly two left, and at this point I'm still up in the air about trying to get some more.

I want to buy a new unit like this one off of ebay since the seller is no longer selling them. Is there some type of internal modification that needs to be made for this unit to work with a 99 Maxima Bose or will it fit right in and all the connectors will fit.
From what I gather, the only modification that needs to be made is the brackets for a flush fit.
Thanks

i actually put one of these in last night
you will need to connect/splice wires from the two plugs in the back
you can use your old bracket, but the holes need to come forward about .75''

sound is about the same in my opinion. i didnt really buy it for sound tho, the stock bose speaks already have me spoiled.
i bought it for the 6 cd capacity as well as the MP3 playing capability. and let me tell you, that right there was worth the 250.
i can hold, including the 6 cds in the player and the 10 in my sleeve thing, over 2300 songs in my car (16 cds X 140 songs). before, when all i could play was audio cds, i think i had less than 200 (11 cds x 18 songs). i got over 7000 songs on my itunes, so it was a pain in the *** to constantly be burning new and different compilations - now i can have roughly a third of my entire library at hand.
also, the way it looks is another huge perk. its a really nice interface; the features are all really responsive and the display looks cool at night.
if you tag mp3s with song names and whatnot, you can chose to have them scrolling while the song is playing.
im guessing the 06 pathfinder they came out of had different sound defaults cuz when i first got it in, the sound was a little hissy and shallow. so, to offset that i put treble at -3, bass at -1 and mid at 2. now it sounds great.
anyway this whole transaction, from purchase to installation (a mere 7 hours) was worth it in the end. certain things didnt work out as planned, but overall im glad i did it.
