Diagnostic Data Link Port....Where is it???? ASAP!!

Does anyone know where that diagnostic data link port is on the maxima, and what it looks like by any chance? I bought a custom made diagnostic/consult board and would like to connect it to my car to at least take a look at any trouble codes my car is throwing out. I looked and couldn't find it, also I need to find it ASAP, thanks.

I just took my ECU out and checked for the codes on it. Didnt need a data link. Data link is easier though

I wasnt aware of a Data link CONSULT port on the early ECU's, like the ones in the 2nd gens, I know the later cars, like 3rd gen VE's have those ports, and early Z32's/J30's, and S14 and JDM SR20 S13. I dont think the earlier ECU's have those ports.

I have a Nissan Consult at my school, and the book states that it wont work on the earlier cars, if the consult wont work, no other OBD1 scanner will work.

I agree about our car not having a consult port, but as far as I know we do have a diagnostic data link(just for pulling codes, not consult). I may be wrong though

From what i've seen, the same port is used for Consult, and OBD-1 code readers on Nissans with the Consult port. This is how it is in my Infiniti J30.

Dont really need to buy anything fancy to get the codes, just turn the switch and let it blink out the codes, it will give you the same codes with a code reader, so there is no reason for one.

Nice. I just have an 87 CA20E S12, with a welded diff and chopped springs. Drifting madness!

I might put in a VG30ET or CA18DET, or I could even get an FJ20ET. Although I have a KA42DE laying around that would be decent in there.

Its cool to know that our cars have these, I thought only newer cars had them. I can't belive most dealers charge $80+ to check the codes when all they do is connect the reader to that.

There is no code reader for the 2nd gens, all you do is check the lights.

acually i have plugged into the diagnostic port before and had it read codes but it not of ODB anything specs...i used a hellatiously old sun diagnostic computer at my uncles shop...it was probally about as old as my car really but still.

S12's are neat, if i ever got one it would have to be a V6 though, since i finally know my way arround this engine a little bit.

Sorry for going off topic but for some reason I can't make a new thread. Anyway, does anyone know where the cooland temperature sensor is on a 2nd gen wagon? Is it the one right under the distributor? Thanks

Anybody know any tips to take off the coolant temp sensor? Its right behind the timing belt cover and under the distributor. I'm having a hard time, also what size is it? Thanks

I wouldnt call a SUN machine a scan tool... it's more of a multipurpose diagnostic tool, you can read waveforms from any sensors, vaccum graphs.. etc.. etc... I hate the things... I love Nissan Consult scanners, I just wish they would work on the earlier cars.
