Did you recently reset your ECU?

That would be the cause for the-
Catalytic Converter NOT READY
Oxygen Sensors NOT READY
EGR Systems NOT READY
Evaporative System NOT READY

Yeah, if you reset the ECU, you need to drive the car for a certain number of miles before it recalibrates itself. I forget how many miles..

Bro, your better off paying to get your inspection done rather then spending all that money to fix problems that you dont need to fix. If your car runs good but has faulty codes that come up when you go for inspection, just pay someone $120 buks and get your inspection sticker. Thats just my opinion, Ive delt with NJ inspection for a while and its chaper to pay, then to "fix up" the car according to state guidelines.

Hmm..I think the 97-99s have special bulb size you can only get from the dealer. Smaller than 194. A 74 will fit but won't be as bright.

Honestly, why would you even bother trying to get it inspected when you dont have airbags? Do you think they will issue a pass for safety when you dont have the biggest safety item in the car>??????

because depending on the cops in your area its almost always better to have a rejection sticker as opposed to an outdated insp sticker.

Go, Buy a sticker, 100 - 200 bucks, Tell Nj Inspection to Kiss Yur's...I never passed it with my old max, thank god the new max had no problems and i got my sticker a few weeks ago :-).

W/o airbags...ForGet ABout it!!...plus nj cops will harass people with rejected stickers especially on a maxima. take it from someone who drove with a rejected sticker for 6 mo's ! ..in a maxima!!...around nj!! ...cops paid more attn to my car and i ended up paying liek $2000 in stupid fines. now with the new max i do the same stuff in the same areas and the cops dont even give me a 2nd wink..

those 2000 in fines were your own fault not the cops. Lucky i didnt pull you over after sixth months i would have taken your car.

@Jextel - dont buy the sticker. None of them are legit, they check, its not worth the fines.

i can vouch for this. his car was a cop magnet. It straight up LOOKED stolen.

I didnt pass inspection, so i bought my sticker. You better believe now my car won't pass (no emissions equipment, stock 98 auto ECU), so when it comes up in september, i'll buy it again.

you'll be damn sorry when you spend the time in jail and pay fines out the *** for the fake sticker. They arent legit, i dont care what they tell you. And if they work at the insp station then you are twice as likely to be in hot water when the investigations are final.

Its not worth it.

Looks like i got to get my hands dirty...lol but first thing i have to replace the check engine bulb then read the ecu and go from there....
I failed . I am having a problem fixing my 99 maxima. I had 2 codes come up. Knock Sensor and Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit malfunction. The sensors were replaced. The knock sensor code went away, but the VSS code remained. In addition my car started to heat up. They changed the the thermostat, flushed the radiator, changed the Speed sensor again, the air filter. Code is still up along with the EVAP 0440 code. They do not know what they are doing. I checked the speed sensor at home (original) with an ohm meter and it is good. The problem was not with the sensor but the circuit. So I stll have not resolved these codes. The car heats up at higher RPM (exceeding 2400).
How do I figure out the circuit malfunction for the speed sensor and what should I look for for the EVAP? Any help would be appreciated. This is my wife's car and she starts teaching in a week.

P0325 = Knock sensor
P1401 = EGR temp sensor
P0600 = Automatic Trans Control Unit
P0155 = Upstream O2 sensor heater fault
P0731 = Automatic Trans 1st gear signal fault
Plus the SRS system, bulbs, ect. ect. ect....
You'd be better off purchasing another car, rather then fixing all that stuff.
