Let me start with the pictures...
Basically what I did is create a 1/2" MDF board that is the shape of the spare tire well. Then I cut a square in the middle and made a recessed box and cut a hole in the middle of the "floor" of the box for the mounting screw. The beauty of the recessed box is that it is the perfect height to square the board off with the floor of the trunk..making everything flush and level. When I lay my carpet down there are no dips or humps.
FYI - The shelf in the pics straddles the spare tire cover. I use the shelf to hold my subwoofer box. Disregard that portion of my trunk. Also, the pictures are of a carpeted version of my board. I also have them without carpet, which is cheaper but simply doesn't look as 'finished.'
My proposal:
What I would like to do is offer this product to the Maxima.org community. If this takes off, I may consider mass producing them. Currently the spare tire cover fits 4th and 5th gens, and this product is offered for those generations only.
Also, the sizing of this product will only work for those that have donut-sized spare tires. These will not work for those that have full size spares, as the wheel alone is taller than the well.
Installation of the cover is very easy.
1. Remove trunk carpet and saggy hardboard spare tire cover.
2. Remove large white retaining nut.
3. CENTER tire in the middle of the spare tire well. **This step is important as the cover will not fit if the mounting post is not in the very center of the spare tire hub.**
4. Place new spare tire cover on spare tire
5. Screw down large white nut through hole in recessed box of spare tire cover. (You may have to fish around a little bit to find the mounting post)
6. Replace carpet
7. Throw saggy spare tire cover away
Pricing:
Non-carpeted board: $40
Add carpeting if desired: $10
Shipping: $20
My "intro GD" will be for 10 pieces. Since capital is somewhat low to purchase necessary tools and supplies to make them on a large scale basis, I would like to take preorders and pre-payment. 10 people paypal, and give me approximately 2-3 weeks to fabricate and ship the product. I have been on the org for a long time and my reputation is quite good. There are plenty of respected members on this forum that can vouch for me.
If there are any questions, please feel free to ask. I am sure I have missed some details and will be more than happy to address them.

I am very happy to be offering this product. I feel that it is the perfect mix of function and form, and hope you will be happy with it too.
Thanks,
