1990 Maxima VG30E

Yeah my built motor has been down for a little while. Just ordered intake and exhaust valves due too my Isky Cam locking up from a fragmented lifter and bent up several valves. I'll be pulling the head completely sending it off to be rebuilt and of course I'll be stuffing JWT .440" S1 cam in that beast. I was so busy I didin't have time to do crap for a few years and it's time to resurrect that beast. I don't have 5k on that motor and it's work was extensive. So it's that time to get busy on that project again.

Looking for valves and I having a hard time finding the 300ZX turbo exhaust valve p/n: 13202-V6510 that evolved into p/n 13202-42E00. Just found out that this valves are the same used in the RB series engines. I've studied the L-series extensively and knew what parts were interchangeable but not the VG and later engine families. Anyway looked at Manley Valves and they're ridiculously expensive $207.42 ea.? It's not that serious! So in this process a lot of good companies have been discovered that support the Nissan brand. I found stock valves for the VG at the Z Store. VG intake valve, 84-89 300ZX: $12.62, VG exhaust valve 84-89 300ZX: $21.95...Not bad but kinda high and not sure if they're OEM or aftermarket? So I think spending a few dollars more for Ferrea Valves will be my route, Intake: $35.92 & exhaust: $37.51. That little bit extra for ensured quality over the unknown specifics of the Z Stores actual part brand. I'm shooting to utilize the 1mm oversize valves which should fill the chambers with more air even at low lift. The addition of a JWT S1 cam should be a very good combo. The previous cam was an Isky (Mid Range) and it's torque and part throttle acceleration was through the roof with stock sized valves. I don't what to good overboard but I'll be evaluating between 1 mm oversive and stock OEM size valves. JWT springs will be utilized just for that extra margin of safety even though stock valve stocks are good up to 7000 rpm. The bottom end is stock with ARP fasteners both rods and mains; so 7000-7500 rpm is safe.

Boy you guys are inspiring me! Nice to know I’m not alone. But praying I don’t have to open an engine any time soon, apart from a timing belt in 20k.

I just picked up my dad's 91 SE (Auto...) to compliment my 97 5spd, and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with it. Was wanting to attempt a VQ swap but building the VG sounds SUPER appetizing after reading this. I'm definitely gonna need research help.

ZCar and Z31 have a lot of parts still there use to be a catalog that came out for Nissan Motorsports (Nismo) and all the parts could be ordered over the dealership parts counter maybe I could make a PDF catalog I'm sure those part numbers are all discontinued but maybe found on the web or ebay!

Excellent! Do you happen to have a list of some of the things you did to build yours?
