Rough Idle, White Smoke

Rough Idle, White Smoke
My original problem, rough idle, poor acceleration and engine stalling. Installed a new MAF, plugs and O2 sensor. Following these changes virtually eliminated my prior conditions. Then, the next day, the engine ran just as bad as it did before. I checked the new O2 sensor and it was filthy. Now I am wondering what to do next. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Pull spark plugs out and inspect one by one. The plug will tell you a lot of what is going on. See what is on them, water fuel oil. Check you coolant level as well to make sure its not low and rule out a possible head gasket problem. The white smoke could be excessive oil burning or water coolant vapor. Check oil stick and make sure there is not too much in your engine.

I am usually on the 4th generation forum. I saw your heading.
Your problem could be the head gasket going out. The car might not run right. It will blow white smoke (actually steam) out the tail pipe. One or more of the plugs might be white, and have that steam-cleaned look. Your coolant level would also be low, and going lower. You might see bubbles in the radiator. if you have these signs, you might consider buying or borrowing something called a: block tester. NAPA sells them. you fill it with a special blue fluid and put it on the radiator where the filler cap goes. If the fluid turns green, or worse yet, yellow, you have a bad head gasket.
