to those with "cleared" tail lights
so i took the VE tails and centerpiece off my 92SE and replaced them with 91 GXE tails with no centerpiece so i could have the goods when it goes to the junkyard/gets traded/gets parted out whatever
i was noticing the plastic diffusers in the reverse and turn signal section and realized this is what you guys have been removing to clear your tail lights
from searching it seemed the consensus was the reverse light diffuser was easily removeable but the turn signal one always had to be busted out
i was wondering if anyone knows a possible way to remove the turn signal diffuser in whole? id like to paint it red and then use a red 1156 bulb and see how that look as im not a fan of the "cleared" look but am interested in having red turn signals in the rear
not sure if the diffuser will still work the same way once painted (thinking stain glass paint) but the pictures ive seen with "cleared" tails and the signal on; the bulb didnt seem to light up the whole section (what the diffusers for)
trying to get red turn signals in the rear with stock tail light look, anybody?

What cleared tail lights? Never seen any cleared tail lights on a 3rdgen b4, anybody got pics? Just curious to see what they look like.
Somebody needs to start manufactoring some performance parts for these cars, can't find much for a 3rdgen... even less than two and a half years ago. The koni's were still available.when I first copped mine.

^ nobody will ever make more than there is now, even look at the exhaust group deal we had. i think it was just me that bought 1, James bought 1, and Cmax bought 2 i think. and that was only about $150ish for a full exhaust.

Well it is clear but it has that opaque lense thing under the outer lense. People bust out that opaque lense to make it look "euro clear" if you will. Just like on the front bumper lights.
If I'm understanding correctly, he's wanting to somehow paint that opaque portion red

Im not sure if Dmad ever found out what he was looking for, but I did follow thru with clearing the difuser from the reverse and signal light. I think it looks really good especially with the SE tails. The only thing was there was way to remove the difuser withouth breaking it! Not sure that I would do it again..?? But the end results looks great ! It's just a small but minor detail, which I think the average person would not pay any attention to it.

meh i wouldn't say it's that high... maybe 50/50. early 3rd gen altima had ambers, late 3rd gen altima has reds. late 90s silverado/suburban/tahoe had ambers, gen before and after had reds. Chrysler 300 has ambers, Charger has reds. Current Accord sedan has ambers, the coupe has reds. 90s (E34 i think?) BMW 5series sedan had ambers, station wagon had reds.
there's really no rhyme or reason to what manufacturer puts what color rear blinkers on what car... foreign or domestic, mid-gen changes, whatever. or even to have different from non-american market cars, like the 3-series and E-class, which have amber LEDs on global spec models and red LEDs on the US model..
why on earth would you want red? yea it's legal in this country (basically nowhere else on earth tho)... but it's a step backwards in terms of visibility. You could just dedicate one of the halves of your brakelight as a signal though, instead... since there's 2 bulbs per side. I actually did the opposite on my S10... gave it amber signals, and relocated the backup lights to the bumper.

tho if so inclined, you can take a set of 89-91 SE lights, bake them and separate them, and get rid of the red middle portion altogether, and have COMPLETE freedom to lay out an LED grid of any shape or design. That's what I was going to do with mine, using RGB multicolor LEDs for a non-fixed pattern, but i ended up scrapping the whole car before i got very far with the project.

yep. The E46 coupe with LEDs for brake and signals are some of the brightest most attention-grabbing signals i've ever seen. I just don't see how red blinking in a sea of red is anywhere near as good as amber which is both brighter, and distinguishable from red. Especially in poor weather like rain, fog, etc.

So since i no longer had reverse lights, I bought a set of foglights and mounted them on either side of the license plate (well just one so far, haven't put the 2nd one on yet) to function as reverse lights. Had to tint them a little bit cuz they had to be mounted upside down, and are twice the wattage of a normal reverse light.

basically the sure-fire way to do it on any car like that is to tap a wire from the brake pedal switch directly to both red lights, tap each side's front blinker wire and run it back to the rear blinker, and then just redirect the backup light wires to wherever you're putting the reverse light.
I still wanna see someone do what i was gonna do with the LEDs and fully-clear 89-91SE tails tho... even if the wiring and soldering would have to be absurdly complex
