Who's Interested in a 3rd Gen Cattman 2.5" Catback?

Since Cattman is on a roar with the success of the 3" 4th and 5th Gen catbacks, I'm curoius who would be interested in a T409 or Aluminized Cattman designed/built catback for our 3rd Gen Maximas? I think most of us had to go custom with a local muffler shop, Warpspeed, Pacesetter or some ebay bought catback....I'm not sure what we as a group are willing to pay for a catback on a possible 21 yr old car, but lets see....I'm sure we could get this for around $400-$800 depending on material type....I'm not sure if Brian would use Aluminized steel ever, but let's see what is possible....Hope this isn't bad timing Cattman!

I would be interested depending on how well the muffler fits.

Remember, 3rd gen mufflers need an inlet on the upper side of the case, and an outlet on the lower side of the case. Otherwise, the muffler points downward and looks stupid (of course, most owners don't seem to notice this). This is why I'm not really a fan of the WSP + universal muffler because I haven't come across a universal muffler with the proper inlet/outlet configuration

Yes this is a problem and I had a problem when I installed a catback made for a 4thgen on my 3rdgen. It would have been nice to have had a 3rdgen 2.5 catback to chose from when I upgraded my entire exhaust. I have a CM muffler now but plan I getting a Borla after I hook up some boost.

Im interested, only in the price range of $300 though. Can't have parts that cost 1/3 of how much the car is worth LOL

I'd be interested. Was always curious about the possibility of this. Also agree on the price range as well but then again everything on my 3rd is worth what the car is in value now. lol

seems like a typical cat-back goes for 3-600. not sure what the other owners would think on a $500+ exhaust on their cars.
depending on the sound (and performance), I probably wouldn't spend more than $400 (personally).

You need sound clips/pics of an undeveloped exhaust system? JDM points on a none JDM car? $500 IMO is a good entry level price for a decent T409 SS 2.5" catback.....My custom catback sum of parts are about $380 using Magnaflow muffler, resonator, tip, and Mandrel bend solution 2.5" T409 builder's kit tubing.....

ah, but im as JDM as it gets because theres extremely few 3rd gens in Japan still, at the time they exceeded Japans width limit, plus Maximas never caught on there hence why NZ and AUS have more RHD 3rd gens

well what i meant is when the first prototype is developed i want sounds clips and pics, im not going to pay beforehand and have some raspyass Honda exhaust. in that case i would rather go with Magnaflow again

Eveyone knows that Cattman is a great maxima supporter and his work is quality... What other exhaust can u get for pour cars... If I didn't have a full 3" exhaust I'd do it... I'm seeing if I can get a 3" in/out for myself...

Why do you have a full 3" exhaust system? Are you turbocharged or supercharged?

i like the sound of my Magnaflow even though its just a welded on catback, but its gotten really loud. it sounds good and deep, but just really loud. i get some nice pops on deceleration though

i know a guy that has a garage in Japan and he gets cars from there to sell to people in Canada and i asked him about 3rd gens and he said hes rarely seen any

Tell me more about your exhaust! How big is your rear Muffler and are you running w/a resonator? What size tubing are yo running? Testpipe or cat?
Let me explain my catback and what it's comprised of:
1. Magnaflow Oval muffler (p/n 12576) 5x11x22
2. Magnaflow round muffler (p/n 10436) 4x22
3. Assured Performance T304 SS resonated tips
4.Mandrel Bend Solutions builder kit (2.5" T409)

But Guys I found a site tonite that I'm trying to encourage them to make a line of exhaust systems for our 3rd Gen in sizes 2.25",2.5",3" and in aluminized steel or T304.....Please for everyone interested in an inexpensive exhaust system...can we all email these guys to make us a recognized group....here's the information!

its nothing really, just a Magnaflow welded on to stock tubing. my OEM muffler was done for when i was in school and a chunk was hanging down, and the Magnaflow was cheap and did the job of looking better it has a mean rumble at idle, but on acceleration its really loud now. when i picked up my Rays rims from the guy, he was outside before i got to his door because he figured it was the loud car

BTW if a 3" exhaust group gets done, i'm 99% in. i should be able to go boosted early-mid next year depending on how my crankshaft bearing fix goes, and i would want a 3" exhaust

Wow, those are some great prices. Although doesn't WSP offer the exact same thing (i.e., all the mandrel bends and "add your own" muffler)? OR do they not do that anymore? Haven't really kept up with them

I'm tempted to pick up a few of their "junk bend" kits for $20. Can't ever have too many mandrel bends when you're building a turbo system

*edit* Oh geez, they make a kit for the 88-92 Mazda 626 for crying out loud.. surely we could drum up enough interest to have them do a 3rd gen Maxima kit..

James your right if they make one for an old 626 then why can't we have one? We have a better car. Oh and I don't think Dallas has many cat-back systems left. He had to search his collection just to put mine together. I'd be interested if I didn't already piece mine together.

yeah and theres even Chrysler Concord kits, as well as older Altima kits. 3rd gens seem to always be dealt the sh1tty hand in aftermarket because theres always something for other sedans. and Concords are like granny land yacht sedans

we should get a total of how many people would be down, im guessing we could get 12-15 depending on price

Let's see how the response from M.B.E. goes as well as Cattman! I'll start a who's interested list once I get some feedback.... But the pricing is really low and All I need is the model specific mandrel bent tubing and I'm good....

I'm not sure my local muffler man could not custom bend up and install a catback system for less than $300.00 . . . .

If I get a chance, I'll swing by and inquire.

Heck, then it is turnkey even, no sweat or dirty hands.

Anyway, good luck to you all on the system!!!

I highly doubt your local muffler man has a mandrel bender

Mandrel benders are about $50,000.

*edit* Not that $50,000 is a ton of money for a business investment in shop equipment, but it's just not cost effective for your average muffler shop. I've only been able to find one muffler shop in Dallas that has a mandrel bender, and there's only a handful of shops in the entire state of Texas with mandrel benders

Ever check on their pricing in a upper level custom exhaust shop with a mandrel bender? Most custom work starts @ $800....hahahaha

I spoke with WSP back in the end of this past JULY when I was looking for catback systems for my Max and was told that since they have been recieving so many calls inquiring bout 3rdgen Max catbacks that they were going to start producing there own. The only downfall they said was the muffler would only be single tip instead of the dual tip that the SE has. I havn't called since cause I couldn't wait and just hooked a 4thgen Max 2.5 high flow catback to the rest of my 2.5 inch cat/front pipe. Somebody should give them a call since they might have something in production already.

WSP previously had 3rd & 4th Gen Catbacks and stopped making them and started carrying Pacesetters which are hard as hell to get now....When they did produced their own it was loud as hell unless you opted for the quietflow muffler, so I'm not sure how big the resonator or muffler they used really was.....???????

Got no response from "Mandrel Exhaust Systems" via email......Got a chance to talk to Cattman via PM and it's not looking to optimistic but, that's not a no.....Ok? I'll be calling them (MES) later this morning to see if we can get the ball rolling or at least what it'll take to do so!!!!!! I've got a feeling they'll need a committed amount of people b4 they can start bending anything as well.....So let's say a pray and see what's what!

Hayame makes a twin tip universal muffler that has inlet at top on the receiving end that is 2.25 or 2.5 (can't remember which it is) and two three inch outlet pipes. I have one Hayame dtx installed on my maxima

Got good news!!!!! MES needs a minimum of 5 ppl interested to make a tubing kit (aluminized only) 20 ppl in order to build a full bolt on kit! I'll try to find out where they are to get a willing person to do a live test fit, ok cause the first 5 without a test fit will need field feedback just in cause there are issues.......
I'm game!!!! Are you? Join the list!
