How to swap to digital gauge?

I did a search but i couldnt find how to do it. At the junkyard the 2nd gens usually have digital gauges, but i never saw a 3rd gen with one there yet. There was a white Brougham there, the digital gauge was still there and in great shape, and someone already took half of the plastic trim off so it was easy to get.

My 92 GXE's gauge cluster is messed, RPM cuts in maybe 1/50th of the time and the temperature gauge works maybe half. Is it a straight swap to go to digital with the same wiring harnesses or is there more to it?

There's more to it, I know you need some kind of control box, and a different fuel sending unit(i think) and other stuff which i don't remember.

It's not plug and play if you just have the cluster. That I know.

kinda what i thought, theyre hard to find here and i paid 15 bucks for the cluster so it was still worth it. i'll check what parts i need and i might get around to swapping it in the winter

yeah, the wiring is different, and the fuel sender is different. I have a lot of the wiring figured out (in theory), in an excel spread sheet, attached to this post.

if anyone notices something wrong, post it, please!

edit: added diagrams to clarify some stuff.

on my screen the pic of the back of the gauge cluster was like... 100x taller than normal but no wider than normal.

as far as physically fitting in the same main dash area, yea, i think so. i know they are on the z31 (digi vs analog), presumably the same thing for most cars with multiple cluster options.

digi-cluster, the connectors for the digi-cluster with at least 6" of spare wire.

if you want to add HUD (heads up display), you will need the box for that, as well, but a digi-gauge conversion doesn't need this to function. should come with a bezel to make the appearance nicer. (I'll try to snap some more pics, later...)

Hectic did the swap and i have the whole wiring with connectors sitting in the box jus not getting the dAm time to work on it. Anyways, u will be better off getting The whole wiring behind the dash from the max u got that cluster. Just pull the whole thing out and swap in ur max. Does ur max have auto climate control or manual? Either way its not hard but time consuming. U will need a fuel level sending unit from the same max other wise ur fuel gauge will give u false readings or u can jus swap the whole fuel pump from the same max and if u Dont feel like putting the hud jus dont cut the hole in ur dash and leave it unplugged otherwise get ready to pull the whole dash out and make the exact hole for the hud to fit. Gud luck

and my vg is still dere if u need a part/project car

Benstoked's post that i quoted in my prev. post says something about a fourth gen. so i figured i might have missed something in there. but that youtube link is for a 3rd gen so still relevant.

how can brougham has manual stuff? it suppose to be a FULLY LOADED model no matter wat....go check again and make sure if it has digi ACC (auto climate control) or manual...it should have adjustable suspension, ACC, Digital gauges, Leather seats, and keypads on the door...and yes u need to take the whole dash out to get the whole wiring with harnesses and again dont forget to get the fuel pump from the car which has digi gauges....might as well get it from the same car u r getting the wiring from....other wise u r gonna have to get it from the parts store or deal wit false readings on ur cluster or if u have a good knowledge in electric stuff then u r gonna have to study the fsm wiring and put some resistors and do some modification but i wouldn't recommend doing that since u can jus swap the fuel pump and get over wit it....

i duno where the heck is hectic since he have done it already and could give some gud tips....but i know FOR 100% SURE that it is alot of work and if its ur DD then go figure something out lol...
