my max has problems

well, for the last few days she has been making weird noises when i put the key in accessory mode, getting cold out so i thought its just that.

Today has been the shizts, first i carpool with a guy and i get up at 645am and be there at 745am, i got up late at 737am so i took a pirate shower, got dressed and started the max up. ran fine, started to go to the guys place, and everytime i went from stop to acceleration, there would be a clicking in the dash, same noise as when you manually press your locks down but twice as much. i thought it was just because i had my heater on because todays the first day of snow

picked the dude up, started driving, and my wipers would suddenly run really slow and the heater shut itself off, then my radio turned itself ON and scared the sh1t out of me. i thought wtf, then my ABS light would kick on for 3 minutes, off for 3 minutes, on for 3 minutes, all the way til i parked her

parked her for 3 hours, thought it would clear up if i fire her up and go home. tried to fire her up, and she just stuttered. i called AMA, Alty is fine, but my battery has bad corrosion and he said its probably overcharged, same battery as when i got my max 2 years ago so i thought thats probably it. he boosted me and i went to the garage, during that time she ran fine and normal

looks like its the battery or wiring, if its the battery thats the best thing because its a instant fix, if its wiring it could mean a couple grand in labor i'll know what it is in a hour or so, if its around 2k or under i'll pay to get it fixed but if its like 5k i sadly will have to either store her at my other house or rent a storage unit and wait a while to get the cash to fix her i wont ever get rid of her, but sadly in the meantime if i cant pay to fix her right away i will end up buying a Z31/Z32, 2nd gen max, 240sx, or AE86 in the meantime and fix the max in a year or two

really hoping its the corodded azz battery, dont want another car. so basically the best things that could happen is i get a new battery and all is fine, or they cant find a problem/it was a one time thing and i can still drive her

hmm...sounds like it could either be the battery or corrosion.
you said the abs light kicked on/off.
not enough power, loose or corroded cable.

im really thinking its the battery, there is ALOT of corrosion. it even ate through the little metal band that screws over the battery, theres about 3-4 tablespoons of corrosion on it and i was actually planning to do something about it this Saturday or Monday/Tuesday but this happened.

ive never had to get my Alty replaced before but everyone i talked to said at least $300 for a new one might be cheaper in the US or something, $85 a hour labor too. hence why i was shizzing a brick over wiring problems because the guy said hes spent 10-15 hours finding wiring problems on cars

My H/U is a JVC, got it swapped just before i wired my subs. kinda wished now i still had the old school tape player but whatever, its riding in the trunk if i want to switch it.

DLT im getting done soon, its a bish to have to use the keys to unlock the doors and if you need the rear doors open you have to manually do it yada yada yada. when i get a day off next i'll get it done

You don't have Discount Auto Parts or Auto Zones in Canada? An alty costs no where NEAR that amount and it's super simple to replace. You got jipped dude, it's not just a US thing.

That is a lot of cash for an alternator. For some reason they seem to be a little expensive for Nissans.

urgh, $300-400 for a bat + alt? Do they have Walmart up there in Edmonton? Hit it up man, what are you waiting for? Go get a bat from Wally world for $50-75 a pc. And go here:
http://www2.partstrain.com/store/det...3-1606639.html

That sweet alt has been working fine for me since 2003. Make sure you unplug the negative battery terminal before you do anything. I had to learn it the hard way because I was being a knuckle head back then.

if i had the time i would have ran to the junkyard and just grabbed a alty from a 3rd gen and did it myself but i thought it might have been something else plus the car was at a sardine parking lot downtown and i needed it fixed right away

of course we have wally land and part source and all that stuff, i swapped my battery a couple of weeks ago though
