dash motor problem....?

i have a 93 VE and recently the needles haven't been working on the dash. Now on a different maxima i've changed the odometer motor, but in this max the odometer doesn't work, the tachometer doesn't work, the speedometer DOES, the gas DOES, and i'm not sure if the temp does or doesn't. (i start up the car every couple weeks for about 15-20 minutes. I haven't driven it anywhere recently so i don't know if the temp needle does or doesn't work). So my question is, are some of these needles all powered by the same motor or are they all bad due to something different?

Its looking like i'll need to buy a dash....

I had to replace the motor in my RPM gauge. They all run on different motors. There is one for each gauge. They are easy to change.

So i found out my needles all do work except the tac. I heard its probably a loose wire due to moving while starting the car, but doesn't move while car is running. Would it still be the motor?

your issue is almost as similar to mines because all my gauges work except my damn Temp gauge which works when it wants to...it usually jumps back to working if i thump the cluster right at the center of the temp gauge lever but only for a short while tho lol...any ideas from .org gurus?

Could be bad contacts with the motor screws/harness on the printed circuit so check on that.

You can also try changing the sensitivity on the tach. There is a knob on each of the circuit board of the motor where the tach sensitivity can be changed. But remember the reading that your old tach gave out because I really don't know how you can get an accurate RPM reading to adjust it (...well on a VG). If someone knows, maybe I can be sure that I set it up correctly.

When I changed from my 89 GXE gauges to 94 GXE the first time the tach wouldn't work. I messed with the knob and it started working. Took me some time to adjust it to the closest reading that matched on my last gauge. I did that about two weeks ago and since then it has only happened to me twice where the tach would suddenly stop working and start working again for the first week. Knock on wood that it won't happen again.
