Fuel Leak
Hello! I have a question about a fuel leak I just noticed yesterday...
I filled up my almost dry tank with 14.9gal, I mention this because I'm thinking I overfilled, I make sure it didn't drip a single drop when filling it, so I drove about a mile and then I stopped at a store and I notice the car was dripping continuosly in the tank area, so went down to check and there's a hose that goes up which was all soaked in fuel and running down dripping.
So, I drove home and want to check again, but the drip was gone, the hose seems to be ok but I can only look a part of it, should I be concerned about this? I mean I drive again and check for leaks but didn't happen again, could it be a leak that only happens when it's filled to the top? did I overfilled and this maybe was the problem? what do you think?
Thanks

check your gas tank vent hose, that is most likely your culprit. it is a 4 dollar fix and you need 1 foot of 5/8 diameter tube. You'll also need two new hose clamps. i fixed my recently for 4 dollars total. mechanic wanted 90 bucks plus buying the hose from the dealer. the hose itself is 40 bucks.
just take off the wheel and pull out the hose. its a pita to replace because of the way the clamp on the tank is position but its an easy fix.

it's the rubber hose that goes over top of the rear crossmember on the driver side of the car. mine did this in 2006 when i first got it. there's probably a tear in it where you can't see. should be a pretty decent price from the dealer when you consider the seriousness of a fuel leak, or you can get a length of hose from your local parts store and just cut it to fit.

it's $14 from courtesy BUT they have minimum $9 shipping. thus it's only a good idea if you are getting a bunch of other items with it.

All right Thanks a lot, I tought it would be a hard job to do, but hopefully it's as easy as you say, I know a lot of stuff it's easy for you guys that have a lot of experience, but at least I'll try, I don't want to pay $90 to a mechanic, I don't trust mechanics and caped knows why
So, I'll try my local autopart store (autozone, pepboys), should I ask for 1 ft 5/8 of fuel hose I know fuel hose should be special right? I think I have hose clamps, removing the wheel will make it easy to reach? I have ramps but don't have jackstands

if you buy the correct hose, it'll be fine. I bought 1/2", and managed to get it to fit, but it was a pita. Do NOT buy anything but fuel hose. shouldn't be but a fifteen minute job.
Yes, you should be able to get to it easily, after removing the wheel be careful, if you don't have jack stands. they are cheap ($30), so you should invest in a pair.

as for the hose.. there's fuel hose, and fuel injection hose (more expensive, designed for high pressure). from what i understand they don't even make fuel injection hose that big tho. but the pressure in that line isn't that high anyways, nowhere near as high as it is in the fuel rail. but as ben said, make sure it at least says "fuel" on it.
