possibly noise reduction but that sounds to logical for an ebay item. its going to cause a lot of turbulence and restriction. put it on drive around a while get a feel for it, then remove it and see what the diff is.

I actually just bought an eBay intake for my new VE, and the MAF adapter was actually shaped like the black thing in your pic. I had to drill new mounting holes as well as take a Dremel and cut out the "square" middle to make it round. Here's the adapter after I drilled new mounting holes but before I hollowed out the middle (click for full size):

Before properly hollowing out the square opening, I stuck it on the car just to see what it would do and it caused the idle to surge between about 300-900 RPM. After revving it, it would dip down to about 100 rpm and nearly die, and then surge.

So, long story short, don't use that black bit. It's merely some sort of universal-ish MAF adapter bit to fit a wider range of cars. I wish I would've gotten the MAF adapter you did, though, because it took me FOREVER to grind out the square opening. Plus, it came with no nuts for the MAF bolts, and the rubber coupler for the TB is way too big and required a coupler adapter that didn't come with the kit. Luckily I had enough stuff laying around to make it all fit. But what do you expect for $20 or whatever it was

*Also* judging by your silver MAF adapter in the pic, I bet you'll still have to modify it to mount out properly. I had to drill new holes just barely outside of the pre-drilled holes in the middle, and the oval "slide" sections of your MAF adapter don't look close enough to work

It looks like they are but they don't fit. Look at my pic, the "outside" holes are the new ones I had to drill to fit

That's what you get for buying eGay junk. Stay away.

FYI.. That square plastic thingy is a restrictor plate for when you are ready to race 20 year old Maxima in NASCAR at Daytona... since they require restrictor plates and all.

Well, in slight defense, WSP doesn't even sell them anymore as far as I know. Plus, aside from having to modify the MAF adapter and the cheap couplers, the eBay CAI actually fits a bit better than my $150 WSP one on the other car. It has a "flare" on the end that doesn't just cause the filter to slam straight into the framerail like the WSP.

I really don't think you can beat it for $20

o ok. i didn't look at your original pic that closely to see that both hole patterns were sort of wide-format. all the maf adapters at autozone that i've seen have a completely square pattern but they should just predrill them to fit multiple cars imo.

Yes but that's just the MAF adapter, no? We bought full CAI "kits".. IIRC the picture of my "kit" in the auction didn't show a picture of the MAF adapter

lol I'm looking at that thing and thinking ok circle... square. One of these things just doesn't belong. Not exactly increasing air flow here.

i ordered the CAI from ebay about an year ago and i got maf adapter wit it which had perfect matching for my maf but it had those square thingy and i had to cut that to make it a perfect circle now we ordered cai for my buddys 4th gen like a month ago and we got the exact adapter as chunkysaus7 showing which doesnt fit the 4th gen maf adapter either i mean it fits but holes r not on correct spots so we had to redrill it. I think these ebay sellers r jus making the same adapter from some gen for every gen
