I have found some differences between my 90SE and the 92SE I did the swap with. Specifically, the ASCD on my 90 has 11 wires that plug into the actual unit under the dash and the 92 has 13 wires. Also, the door lock timer and combo flasher unit for the 92 has a completely different connection and wires than the 90SE. Matter of fact, I can't even find the door lock timer in the 90SE. I found the combo flasher and the ASCD but can't find the DLT anywhere. I completely took the dash out today, and barring someone telling me what wires to jump to what wires, it looks as though I am going to have to change the entire harness for the car.
Please help anyway possible. I DO NOT want to have to change the entire harness.
Greeny, remember recently when you told me you had seen a Max with the fuel pump fuse like halfway down on the right of the fusebox? My 90 is like this too. The 92 is top one on the right.

I have 92SE doors on my 90 SE and my power locks dont work, Ive been meaning to get that sorted out but I have a feeling its not going to be fun.

After I did my swap, my DL worked for a couple of days, but then the DL and the turn signals quit. Unless someone can find us a work-around, the entire harness will have to be swapped in mine.
I will do it if I have to, but I surely do not want to.

Are you sure that it is just the wires and not just the switches?
It is in the wiring....everything looks (read: all the colors are different) and number of wires are TOTALLY different for each component. I can't find a FSM for a 90SE. If anyone knows where I can find one, please PM me. I have one for a 94.

Both my maximas are 93+, so i really couldn't give you any advice as to where certain parts are on your 90, nor how to get it all working correctly without swapping the rest of the harness.
It's just strange to me that nissan made so many wiring changes between the years on these cars, you would think they would be all the same...

It's all good. I just hope someone that is a wiring genius can help me out.

Ain't that the truth! Under the dash is totally different between the two cars. I was like HOLY SH*T!!! It is one thing to have different colored wires, or maybe even different types plugs, but these two have totally different wire gauges and number of wires to components.

I think part of the problem is no one has tackled such an extreme change on their car before, or at least as far as this particular aspect of a wiring change goes. If we could compare wiring diagrams for the two cars, we may be in luck. i got my 94 FSM for an unbeatable price(...) and have had no reason to get a new one, and won't unless i decide to rebuild my tranny. anyone have access to a '90 and '92 FSMs, that could help us out?

I believe the 92-94 FSM is the same....it is the 90 we are needing. Yes, ben, I believe if I could compare the two, I might be able to work something out.

Just seen this, and recalled when i was there that you said they did work prior.
If the dl/ts worked before, then you shouldn't have to swap the whole harness over,it might just be a wiring gremlin somewhere under there.

I don't think 90 had the door lock timer.
something in my memory is saying that the timer started in 91.
Hmmm, then could that be an issue as I have a hybrid wiring harness? As in, 92 everything under the hood and 90 everywhere else.
I talked to Wayne on the phone a little bit ago, and I think we decided that if it was working shortly after the swap, then it should be working now. Unless I have a short somewhere.

The question now is what controls the door locks on the 90 model, pre door lock timer box?

I have a 91 fsm if you me to compare anything specific. It is true there is no door lock timer on 89-91's, at least not a standalone one under the steering wheel. I'm pretty sure the TCU handles the auto door locks on pre 92's. It works when you lock/unlock via the master switch, but not when manually flipping the lock or by key correct?

The master switch?
Multi task control box under dash somewhere?
Mice?

I couldn't find anything about how the locks were controlled on the 89-90. But the master switch is probably what does it.

ok, on the TCU in the 90, it has like 10-12 wires going to it...not sure as I do not have it in my hands right now. The 92 has three. I am thinking that the 90 TCU also controls the DL. I found a JY here that has a 91 max but the want $35 for the module. I was like, uh, HELL NAW!!!! LOL

UPDATE: I found a JY about 30 miles away that had two 89's. I got the box I thought I needed, but alas it did not cure my problem. Methinks I got a short somewhere.

that makes sense. i replaced the unit in my 92 a couple of years ago, but the locks don't all lock when i do it manually. my sister's 92 works fine.

I think I may be on a different page than you....is the TCU a Timer Control Unit or Transmission Control Unit? If you are saying transmission, mine does not have this....it is a 5spd. And no, the onliest way to lack the doors is to manually push down each and every lock on the door. I have no form of power door lock whatsoever.

the odd part is that all 3rd gen use the same power window master switch.
I picked up another power window master switch today also, just haven't had the chance to install it yet. On my way home from work tonight, I noticed when I got out of the car I have now lost all lights in my interior too. Dash lights work, but none of the courtesy lights.
I took my car to the local electronics place that installed my aftermarket alarm system last week and they said there was nothing wrong with their system, but it is blowing a fuse connected to their system. I am beginning to think either:
A) I have a short in my wiring somewhere, or
B) The master control for the aftermarket alarm is going /gone bad.

Oh, nevermind, I think...LOL how could this have anything to do with the turn signals too.

OMG dude is that really you? Where the hell have you been for the past 2 years when I needed you!? Welcome back
Here ya go dude, take a quick peek at my old thread, this maybe your problem as well. i'M aLL wIrEd uP!!11!!!!1!!
Did everything work on the 90 prior to the swap?
I would also suggest you take the time to just swap the harness over to be on the safe side. I wish I would've just swapped harnesses when I fixed my short rather than soldering wire by wire.

Disconnect the alarm system and see if the problems go away.
their system may be fine, but they may have tapped the wrong wire.
