Nissan quality, still strong

Damn I still have some love for my 3rd gen

Blower motor stops running, and its cold out side. No spin at any speed. checked fuses, good. checked voltage at motor, good. couldn't get to the connector to easily get an ohm reading, so I pulled the motor, had to pull the glove box to get at a screw, pretty easy. Motor has less than an ohm of resistance, spins not too freely, and acts as a generator while spinning it /generates higher voltage reading/. So next, hook up a 12V battery for a quick second and it spins up to a high speed. Open up the end cap to check the brushes, and they look good plenty of life left and the sping puts enough pressure on the commutator. So I clean it up, blow out the dust with compressed air, put some all purpose grease in the bushing houseing /it was dry before/. Do a test run by plugging it back in without installing it in and bam runs like new again. Gotta love Nissan quality.

Same thing happened with the starter motor last summer, the grease dried out, and the engine wouldn't turn over fast enough to start. Took it apart and cleaned it, greased it, and literally starts like new again.

yea i have to admit nissans are pretty good even when working at autozone there's more problems with american than imports.
my dad had a 240 sx...NEVER KEPT UP ON IT.
i always did.
never used premium, timing chain sounded like crap till warmed up.
then started burning oil round 190k but still ran like a champ.

good job on the blower motor!

Just curious, what kinda grease did you use on the starter? White lithium?

A job is a job, man. At least he is working around cars.

Your job may be better, but he is working his way up.

I used a multipurpose grease, white lithium should be fine. Bearing grease would be too thick. Thinking back, the bushing was completely dry, I have a feeling there were a ring of magnets around the bushing end cap. So it might have been some MAG-LEV action going on there, GO Nissan HOOT. So the motor either got stuck from some age/friction, or possibly the motor got stuck in a dead field spot.
