I've driven lots of other cars I've potentially thought about getting (1992 BMW 525i, 1999 Ford Taurus SHO, 2001 Ford Mustang V6, Escorts, some 4th gens among others) And I REALLY like the way the 3rd gen handles, rides, accelerates, basically everything. If it had a perfect body, some performance upgrades, an upgraded interior and a 5 speed swap it would be perfectly IDEAL. Hah, I'd just keep shoveling more into it

I've had the car for a year now, and it's by far my favorite car I've owned. It's got looks, style and power, and I for one plan on being it's last owner. I have friends buying new cars, and the more I compare, the more I love the max, and the more I realize that I'm not missing anything! Except the car payments that could be put to better use.

Yeah I miss my 3rd gen sometimes. Even though it went through a bunch of problems, I look back at it and sometimes I just miss driving it and seeing it in the driveway. My 2k SE is a nice replacement though. My 3rd gen made me stay in the same family

I agree the 3rd gen maxima's are the koolest maxima's ever.

I have an 89 limited brougham edition, GXE that came with the electronic suspension, heads up display, digi Dash, leather interior, sunroof, climate control, and a Bose System in it... pretty way ahead of there time for an 89 if you ask me.

My next door neighbour has the 4th generation max's and he always comes by to see my car instead. ha!

The newer maximas took alot of those kool features out unfortuneately. The only thing my max doesnt have , are the neccesities for saftey, no ABS and no airbags. In 89 these things were being introduced and at that time was an option to get for your vehicle.

Is their a way i can add those things on?

Probably an option offered in Canada. I've seen that on a lot of JDM Nissans.

Hey I'll get some fresh new pics up soon, I'm in the process of a new paint job and possibly an engine swap & tranny. I had gutted out the interior already as im fitting in new carpet and ceiling/door fabrics. The car right now is undergoing some deep surgery hahaaa. The body has severe underbody issues and after a few winters, the rockers need to be re-done... So very very soon , I promise. You'll see the durastic makeover. =)

B.T.W. the Brougham was the Canada Model, =), but mine being an early 89 model i had no air bags and ABS. Gotta add those in sometime.

Have to agree about the 3G, I have an '89 SE with 220,000 miles...I bought
it at 165,000 miles and the only major work was a new radiator for 2 pin size
hole leaks that just were not going to seal with molder...etc. what a car...
I set it up hot with many upgrades but none over $100.00 each...

yours,
Drew

What I love about my 90 se 5speed is how it handles. it's got 240k plus and has all the stock shocks, bushings ect. and it still handles like it did at 125k.
it handles f*cking awesome!

Dude, c'mon at least ask that in a thread related to what you're asking. To answer your question..Go to a shop and let them check your car they'll tell you what you need. if you already know exactly what you need and cant find it anywhere its because its most likely a dealer only item. If you're referring to rear swaybar links, then yes they're dealer only but I believe Matt Blehm (spelling) makes them and they're heavy duty. If not what you need, just go to dealer anyway and they'll pull up the diagram of the parts you need and you just show them which part it is.

Pointer, make at least 15 posts in other threads and then you'll be able to make your own thread, its on the homepage in case you were wondering why you couldn't.

I have a 90 SE, 5 speed of course. I love it. This is the first Maxima I've ever owned. It's a lot better than my last car(88 Honda Crx) and faster than my girlfriend's(00 Honda Accord)

I just caught onto this thread and I must say, I've had a 92 and my 98. Even though my 98 is much better in my mind, I could definitely see the quality of the 3rd gens. I wish I could have had my 92 when it was much newer. I bet in their day, they were the best maxima. Currently, I don't think there are many nice ones left. Sadly age is catching up to them. Those of you that have nice running VEs, treasure them!

btw...rimaximaman, you should meet us down a DD in Seekonk (in front of walmart) Monday night. A few of us meet up weekly.

3rd. gen FOREVER! or until it quits :)

I agree on 3rd gens may just be the best maxima ever! I was pondering the
Idea of selling "Max" and getting a newer maxima. I first went to indy and
drove an 99SEL 5 speed and I was not at happy with the whole design top
to bottom of the 4th gen,so I passed.I then drove an 01 Auto and I like
the looks of it ,but just did'nt feel the "wow factor" mine gives. I've
decided to keep "Max" until he gives or I get enough funds for a 05
altima 3.5 6 speed.I was very impressed with the Altima and it gave
me the feeling of a 3rd gen maxima.

I agree, I think the Altima has definitely taken the Maxima's place as the 4 door sports car.

the "best" is a relative term.
in terms of fun driving, it beats an A32 easily.
in terms of ergonomics, it sadly loses.
Build quality of the 3rd gen was top notch
can't say the same for the 4th gen

For the Record I have/had a 92 VE A/T and HAD a 96 I30 drove them back to back on numerous occassions
I liked the ergonomics of the I30 better, but the VE had better pull and power.

the I30 also had a WAY better factory radio than my aftermarket one in the VE.
