Or, its's time for new brakes but you've got no money because you spent it all on your mods..IMHO, since these cars are kinda old, always keep some $$ on the side for some unexpected repairs that may come up.
Also, as you fix things, you also get the experience you need to install mods you will be getting.

As far as mods go, i think the best bang for your buck performance mod is a Y-pipe. Also you should look into replacing your struts because they are probably worn out/blown on a 14 yr. old car.
hope this helps...
AMEN TO THAT! Why the hell do people ignore me when I say that? my dumb *** cousin spend over 1k doing bodywork and riceafying his 97 Eclipse RS (Real Slow) and then he blew his engine for the second time once the rice work was done to it (lol)

I would bet I probably have close to $12k in mine, including the purchase. Which means about $9k more than I can get back. I am with the ones that say it was never about the "investment" it was for the love of the car and the joy of doing it. It is a little disheartening that our babies may never be valuable "classics" to the rest of the world, but that is only because the rest of the world just doesn't get it. 3rd gen Maximas were one of the most underappreciated cars made. They made Car & Drivers 10 best for a reason.

I agree.. I know they were on the list often, but did they ever make it to #1?

I don't think so. But I think in the 3rd gen run they made it three times in a row. That is impressive enough. 3 top tens beats one first in my book

Hey guys, I waited a while to post this because I formatted my hard drive and let a friend borrow Microsoft Office so I wasnt able to take a screen shot but I encourage everyone to do this if you dont already do this. I have EVERY receipt to back this up in case of anything. Let me know what you guys think.

Dude always keep your receipts! They'll come in handy one day for something. Everyone on here that loves their cars and want to keep track, I think my method would be a good way to do so.

It's very reliable. You just bought the wrong one for YOU.

And why would you rebuild the engine? Don't they live for like ever?

no it just helps to transfer the load on a turn from one side to the other so the body roll is minimized. i had it off my 3rd gen in the front and back, but i also had a heavily modified suspension so it was stiffer than most. it wont affect your tire wear, just your ability to take a turn faster. on a 12+ yr old car that's the last think i would worry about.

what can I say, I missed out the best thread ever cuz I've been putting so much $$$ into this car, I lost count until this thread reminded to put a limit on it. So far I've already spent around $6500 for everything including labor fees, the price I paid for the vehicle, parts, etc.. Yup despite the fact that I did 95% of the works myself

Thanks to a tranny rebuild a few days ago... I'm at around $3K (so far) and YES I got a tranny cooler put on there due to all of the great advice I got from the forum. Would have done the 5 speed thing but my girl can't drive a stick (lol)

Let's see...
1992 Maxima SE $1,200
Stereo Stuff (including MP3 player that's not just for the car) $350
Insurance check to fix car after getting hit $-900
Parts to fix damage $200
New Coil Pack $41
New Injector $95
Total investment $986

Car is over 260,000 miles now and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.

That will be a good selling point when you let your car go so you can buy mine...

J/K...kind of...my car will most likely be up for sale in about a year's time, but who knows...besides, that's a long ways off from now...

BTW, I will be making a trip to Chicago at some point between now and the fall...I will let you know when it is going to happen...maybe I can schedule it so it will coincide with a Chicago Maxima Club meet!

Well I'm under a grand and that includes buying the car heres the run down
$200 + $200 for buyers fee,plates and tax from WWW.CHARITYCARAUCTION.COM
$3 for brake fluid to bleed the cluch line (they said cluch was bad)
$60 for drivers side drive shaft
$40 for new power steering hose
$100 for new alt. (taken out from being covered in power steering fluid)
the body is super rusted but engine and tranny still good, tranny will be going into my 85 when i do the cluch.
I have owned it for 2 years and have drove it from MN to the SW to NW to East coast (in PA now). I love it and wish the body wasnt as bad as it is, but then again i have all the parts i need for a 5 lug swap for my 85
