Low oil pressure

I have recently noticed my oil light was on for about 5 seconds after I started the car up and during this period I also hear valve tapping but no longer than the first 3-5 sec. upon startup. I always change my oil frequently (every 1,500 miles!) and I use castrol GTX startup with a K&N oil filter.

GTX STARTUP -- I used this to help protect the engine on startup not hurt it.

K&N Oil Filter -- Has an anti-drain back valve (could it have failed ??)

I don't know whats going on please help guys.......!!

That makes alot of sense ..........

I might worry but I just don't like the valve tapping and I don't want it to grow into anything larger or if this is a hint of whats to come.........

what could I do to stop this ??

BTW-- My oil is perfectly half a milimeter below the max line on the dipstick .

Yes I'm a little oil peroniod

the light should be off within the time it takes the motor to actually start.

Don't know what Maxima you have, but can you check the oil pressure? I've replaced my oil pressure sender unit some time ago. It was lighting up, but the pressure was good and after I changed the sender all was good.

If you don't know what you're talking about, then STFU noob. This has nothing to do with oil level, as the guy stated above his oil level is just fine.

I would suggest you put a real oil pressure gauge on it for a few startups and see exactly what the pressure does and when it builds. it could be that your oil pump is getting a bit tired and the anti drainback valve in the oil filter is letting oil seep by when the car is turned off, so that would cause it to take a bit longer to build pressure in the mornings.

but IMO, as long as it builds pressure within a couple of seconds, then you'll be just fine. Which it does because you can hear the hydraulic lash adjusters stop ticking shortly after they build pressure at startup.

My old GXE did this starting at about 80k miles and was still doing it at 130k when I wrecked the car. My VE did it from 150k when I bought it to 220k when I blew the engine at the race track (not oil related failure either.)

Ok, I hear you Matt ..... My car has 225,781 miles on it and It has the original oil pump so I suspect it could be a bit tired !!

I might go buy a pressure gauge and check it out.

I might try another oil filter I don't know if I should get a different filter or stick with K&N It has been a good filter never had a problem with them until now (They are expensive 11.00 for a VG motor one !!)

Anyone have any topshelf oil filter recomendations .......

I want it to have anti-drain back valve and good filtering.

Should I be more concerned with oil flow speed through the filter element or the filtering size capability? 1 micron 2 micron...........

Thanks Guys

B.T.W.- When I stoped at the gas station to fill her up with shell 93....I noticed when I started it back up to leave the oil pressure was up in like one second (light was on 1 sec after start up if even that long)
