I'm pretty sure, one for each bank of cylinders. What are you doing with all those wires? Can't you just swap the entire harness and ECU from the VE also?

one more question.... the relay box on the VE's......on the passenger side right near the ABS thing what does FICD mean???

Yes there are only 2 VTC's

One for each head like previously stated

The part you have in the picture is only the VTC solenoid.. You have to take off the timing chain covers to see the actual VTC's themselves

Good job on the VE swap.. Once you get it all up and running you'll be thinking to yourself 'so this is what the Maxima.org guys have been sweating for years'

are you trying this without a FSM?...you are a brave person if so.

Serously you need to get one ASAP if you dont have one because it will answer these questions plus have wiring diagrams.

You are going to NEVER get this done if you dont have, or go get a wiring diagram. That and a FSM would do you wonders. Don't get me wrong, you have a ton more guts than I attempting this, but if I did I would get the referance material BEFORE I ripped into stuff.

well the story is that my VG tranny broke (160 HP motor's tranny)...so i am currently putting in the VE motor/tranny (190 HP motor)....most of the wiring is different...but if it doesnt work... i will be parting out my car...but i will be keeping the current interior (all custom made black).....hopefully it works, but if it doesnt i will be looking for a Black VE 5 speed! so i cam put the all black interior in it!

well i am only 17 and i have NO experience with motors or anything........my parents drive me around ...not too thrilled about that....the junk yard is only a mile from my house so its not bad.....didnt have an engine lift so i had to use a chain hoist (hung it from the tree).....i just pulled the ECU out of the junk car (it is a u-pull it junk yard).....they have pretty good prices out there...but dont have any cars newer than 96 and dont have anything that is worth $3,000 or more....but you get REALLY good deals there.. i got athe engine and tranny for $300, with 69k miles on it.. so not too bad i think... since i work ALOT the car has been off the road for about 4 months now!!!!!!!! (havent had a lot of time to finish it) but progress is going well....i am off today so i will be working on it until dark....hopefully it runs very well...i dont feel like parting it out...wish me luck!

good luck on everything, keep us updated... i am curious to see how it works out.

yeah i asked my self a million times if it was worth it....... and as of right now i dont think it will be worth it... most of the time the car sat there because i needed money... i only was driving it for a month and a half then the tranny blew.. i miss it so much and it is VERY frustrating!!!!!!!!!! UGGH!! well i hope it works.... if it does in the summer i might convert it to a stick shift!!! even though i should have done that in the first place

I agree with the 5-speed swap from the beginning. But then again my parents wouldn't let me swap in a 5-speed in the yard so I had no choice but to find a cheap beater for the moment.

Seems your moving along so far. Im surprised you decided to do this without much experience. But you have to be sure that you want this to work, because if you hit a big enough bump, I really doubt you will finish, and it will all just have been a waste of time. You definatly get props from my corner. Still think you shoulda brought along the 5spd, cause after all this, you'll still be stuck with the auto, right?

Everyone is making it seem more daunting than it is

You should have no problem pulling the whole wiring harness out and swapping it, then finding where it all goes just as long as you havent tried to cut and splice anything blindly (I cant really tell what you did though)

well the day i was at the junk yard... i had to basically rip it out... so i had to cut it......that probably would have been the easiest thing to do.. but i would of had to take the whole dash apart and i just didnt have time that day.....so i am taking apart all of the old and new harnesses and basically combining them!!!!....so yeah i took the hard way......i wanted to buy the whole dam car but they wouldnt let me! so i was f-ed from day one!

um you know that the main ecu harness could have just been unpluged pulled throught the firewall and reinstalled in your car, you pretty much screwed yourself buy cutting up the harness now you got to reconect a TON of wires and that leaves room for a TON of error since some of the colors are kinda hard to distinguis

not to discourage you but it doesnt sound like your on the level of getting somthing like this to work or you would have already had it working i mean it easy to just swap an engine but your doing somthing that no one else has ever done. its definitly possible but if you dont know what a VTC soleniod looks like your proboly not going to be able to wire up extra relays to power all the extra stuff the VE has like for instance the coil packs hell this job would proboly give craig a headache and he probobly has all the wireing diagrams memorized
