Your 3rd gen ever leave you stranded?

Has your 3rd gen ever left you stranded or broke down on the road? What was the cause if it did?

168k thus far and 2 years of ownership with no breakdowns. It did have trouble starting once, but after a few attempts it cranked right up.

Actually the car never got towed....My wife was driving both times it quit, she called me,i told her to bang on the fuel pump/tank area where the f/p wiring harness goes into the cover plate in trunk.....And she fired up and come on home.....Replaced the pump....

1st: Tore a rod though the block
2nd: Tore up a piston ring. Engine ran but smoked out everyone behind me
3rd: Well technically the car stranded me. Someone drove off in the damned thing! Stupid car, starting and all

treat it like a race car, expect to work on it like a race car.

never left me stranded

It almost did when I busted the cv joint/axle. I drove to the mechanic very slowly (only time I let someone else work on my car). It wasn't completely broken until the mechanic test drove it.

Two years ago, at 245K the crank snout broke. Paid some smuck 300 to throw in a used vg. He messed up when he did the tensioner on the t-belt, so around 90 miles later, the belt slipped teeth. Then I put an engine in myself, and no problems except a fuel pump fuse yesterday. Very reliable for how hard it is pushed.

Bad maf, car bucked like a horse. Had to stay in a hotel and drive in safe mode the next day for over 60 miles at about 35-40 mph to the nearest place that had a maf. Then had to Sea foam the hell out of it before it would run right. The whole back of my car was black from running rich in safe mode.

my '90 did, VG/auto, automatic completely died one day, wouldn't engage in any forward or reverse gear. Had a friend get a truck and pull my dead car to a party where we proceeded to drink ourselves stupid, had AAA take the car home later...

Not all bad tho, this prompted me to find a nice 5-speed car for $300 thru ebay...

Only once but it was my fault, I changed an accessory belt, and put the water pump pully on backward, so it shredded the belt, and would have overheated if i had not parked it, so i had to fix it

Automatic tranny died on the way to school, had to get it towed. Also lost the waterpump/ps belt tenioner on the freeway, but that was my fault. I was able to limp it into a hotel parking lot a few minutes at a time, and got a ride from my mom. Went back and fixed it in the parking lot a few days later.

Thankfully in the 65000 miles ive owned my max its never accually been stranded. I did blow a boost coupler on the highway a few weeks ago, but i had already been leary about it so i had taken the tool to fix it with. I quick fixed it next to the highway

mine has 165k miles on it and i have had the alternator go out on me but everytime i used the battery to drive to the shop before the battery went out and this happened twice so never been really stranded and next when my water pump belt broke and i still drove the thing to the closest shop before the thing overheated. but other than that it runs beatifully.

oh and the starter on mine wasn't too bad because Keelan ran across the street and gave me a push :-) I think Jeff was there when that happened too because I accidently went past the onramp and there were 4 3rd gens pulling illegal u turns lol

Actually now that I think about it, I think Jeff already left.. it was Me, antonthegrey, Spipedong90, and littlepiggie ( ). I remember because I was the fastest one through the I-90 tunnel run and whooped that SLK320

Clutch Master Cylinder was in a parking lot so it wasn't bad, just made me go WTF at first lol. Just bad timing because I was supposed to be meeting up with es_amixam and Jeff92se. antonthegrey wouldn't let me borrow his car either . The worst part about that is it had just flash hailed about 1.5" of hail and then anton's car was broken into about 10mins before he got off work and I had to leave mine in the same parking lot... Worst night of my life, I was almost certain there would be a few thousand dollars of stuff missing from my car (and I had already spent 30mins gutting my car :-( )

no more modified daily drivers for me though
